Quick update on my mom's interview:

Interview went well, except my mom had to get police clearance from the Japanese Embassy because she worked there years ago. I didn't bother to get this because when filling out the I-130, they only ask for the addresses she lived at for the last 10 years, so I thought it wouldn't matter if she worked in Japan because it's been more than 15 years ago. Now we had to wait 2 more long months to get that darn document taken care of. Unfortunately they don't do expedited processing. :(

My mom was told she'll get her visa issued once she submit the document.. It's just going to be a looooooong wait. Good luck to everyone!

Hi - would you mind sharing how you went about getting the police clearance from Japan. It is likely my dad might need that too.

Not sure if you're also from the Philippines, but I found this on their website:

http://www.ph.emb-japan.go.jp/visiting/consular/policeclearance.html

My mom went to the Japanese Embassy in Roxas Blvd. and showed the email where she needed to submit the police clearance. They asked her to go to Camp Crame in QC to get he fingerprints taken. After that, she has to go back to the embassy and submit the paper. The processing takes about 1 1/2 months to 2 months they said. If you think your dad may need it, you may want to get it taken care of right away since the processing time is too long. They require this document if the beneficiary has lived in a different country for 12 months or longer.

Thanks very much. If they need it for a stay of 12 months or longer, my dad will not need that. He was in Japan for less than 6 months I think - on a technical scholarship. Thanks for sharing the process though - we are in India, so places will be different, but process likely the same. Will double-check his dates and get prepared if necessary.

Nope, if you have enough income to cover your household, then you are good to go.

Sorry to hear about your mom too Caramel Swirl.  But let's be positive. Atleast you found out right away and now she will be healed because of the medications they gonna give her. Did they tell your mom right away at the releasing area about her results? My mom just got her brown packet and CD and it says "do not open" but they didn't tell her if she passed or not. So I called St.Lukes and the guard  answered my call and explained that my mom passed.. I am still not sure but I don't care, I already booked my flight haha!

Goodluck Caramel and Jennnna!

Thank you guys because I've been following you for almost a year and special thanks  to Jennnna because she updates us a lot and is very willing to reply our questions and messages!!!!

Thank you again!!!!

They have it on record. It's required for your mom to bring her old passport with her during the interview, I believe. But regardless, they have it on file showing if your mom worked or traveled abroad. You may want to request for the police clearance before the interview so you have everything before the interview.

Thanks for the positive words bhelle.  I actually don't believe she has TB,  which is what they are mainly looking for.  I believe her lung is scared from bouts of bronchitis, because she has serious allergies and that turns south a lot of times, plus she was a smoker, but quit like 25 yrs ago.  So I'm expecting the results to be negative (please pray that it does).   Hoping to hear from them very soon.

No they gave her no results, they just took the three day sputum test and told her they will call her when the results come in.  I'm figuring once they give you a packet, it means it's  a  pass.  Congrats on your mom, it should feel good to be reunited.  I guess while my mom waits she can still travel on her visitor's visa, so it's not so bad.

Good luck to us all!!!!

Hi everyone,

I am new here to this forum.  Hope everyone is doing well! I was wondering if anyone could tell me how long after you send in your IV package do you expect to hear back from NVC? how soon do you expect to have an interview date? I sent in my IV package back in October 27th and when I checked my case status on NVC, it is still showing 'submit your documents.' Also, what kind of interview questions would they ask at the visa interview? I appreciate everyone help.

Welcome rainbowfalls.   They will tell you around 10 weeks for approval.  We are seeing VJers getting approval before but as you know, its hard to pinpoint a timeframe.  Interviews are set up by the local embassies so it depends on how backed up they are.   Again interview questions are really what that officer feels like asking and also the type of visa you applied for (spouse/parent etc).

Good luck to us all!!!
