Hello,

So my fiance is a USC, he is currently unemployed because he is living currently with me in Greece. He has a bad bank account and bad balance, we will put his parents as co-sponsors, they are retired but they have more than enough in their bank accounts to support both of us till my fiance is financial stable. My fiance is worried about if he needs to show his bank statements and the amount that he has right now to the Embassy , do you think it will affect the visa???

Not necessarily. You will have to show the co-sponsor Affidavit of support form with their tax returns etc (the cosponsors) since your fiancé's finances don't make the cut. They will see that they have the funds as cosponsors just as long as ample financial support is coming from somewhere

It will not affect the visa/visa process. He will not be required to show the amount of money in a bank. He will need to show current proof of income above poverty level or find a suitable co-signer for the affidavit form.

He won't have to show bank statements as he won't have any assets to prove. Bank statements are necessary when proving assets or trying to provide MORE proof of income, which he doesn't have.


One thing that you'll need to make sure of though, is that he has domicile in the US. He'll need to prove that there is going to be a place for you to live when you go to the US. Almost ALL USC's petitioning for both their spouse or fiance end up having to leave and move back to the US BEFORE their spouse/fiance is able to join.

Lacking domicile AND income has hurt people, there was recently a case in London where a person was asked for a second cosponsor due to lack of domicile and income. Their first cosponsor made more than enough to sponsor them, and while they had a plan (live with grandparents if they couldn't find a place to rent) it wasn't enough for the CO.



My husband had to use two cosponsors as well, domicile wasn't an issue, but my unemployment was. We used my mother to cosponsor originally, she made more the i864p guidelines, but they didn't feel that there was enough financial security, and told my fiance if he could provide ANOTHER cosponsor, then he would be approved. The interview went swimmingly up until the CO being worried about my fiance becoming a public charge due to my unemployment. Once we sent in a THIRD I-134 with supporting info (one for me, one for my mom, one for our friend), they approved his visa in less than a week.


With that said, fill in your timeline! It'll help everyone know where you are in your journey!


So be aware, there ARE some cases where the CO will not feel comfortable even if you have a cosponsor. This is fairly rare, but it HAS happened and it CAN happen.

It'll depend on what CO you get, and how much financial info you have to work in your favor.

It might not affect the visa, however credit check are done when trying to sign a lease or prior to getting a job... just be prepared that things could get a bit harder when trying to do those things.
