Hello. My mother and I are in the process of bringing my grandmother to live with us in the States from Cuba. The case was already approved by USCIS and it's at the NVC stage now. Unfortunately, my grandmother was diagnosed with early onset dementia a couple of years ago and I just don't see the chances of her successfully interviewing at the embassy without support from my mother or myself. She is very forgetful nowadays and under the pressure of the interview she will get very nervous and she could literally say anything to deny her a visa. I was wondering if there's anything I should read about in a situation like this. What options do we have? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

Hello

the petitioner is an US Citizen? according to USCIs, Parents of US Citizen are interview waived https://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume7-PartA-Chapter5.html

hi inlove

you are looking at adjustment of status, meaning an interview may be waived, but in the US, no interview is waived when it goes through consular processing

hi Guille

can your mom be there at the interview with her? can she fly to Cuba to be with her mom? because probably they would ask her about health insurance. How will she take care of your grandma so she doesn't become a public charge

and who is going to care of her when she can't take care of herself?

Hey aleful, thanks for replying. My mother can definitely be there with her, that's actually what she wants to do, but having gone through this process bringing my wife into the States recently too, I know only the beneficiary is supposed to interview and no one else, etc etc etc. My mom and I are sending the affidavit as joint sponsors and we both have the financial requirements to ensure she won't become a public burden to the government.

hi

but when you have ailing parents or young children that need help, a person can go in with them, especially if she has a medical authorization

that her mom can't go in alone

With an elder in this circumstances, someone should be able to attend the interview with her... I don't think they an answer for her, but they can accompany her.

Check directly with the embassy or consulate where she will interview.
