Need Help Understanding Police Clearance For K1 Visa

Hello,

My fiancée and I have been trying to figure out if we need to get a police clearance for her and how to obtain one.

She was born in Romania and is living there at the moment, but she stayed in England for over a year working as a live-in nanny. That means she needs to get one from there correct? If so, who do we contact to get one from there? Also does she need to get a police clearance from Romania as well, or will the US Consulate in Bucharest already have that information? Thanks for the help in advance.

From which countries does an applicant need a police certificate?

IF the applicant…

...is living in their country of nationality at their current residence for more than 6 months AND is 16 years old or older THEN the police authorities of that locality.

...lived in a different part of their country of nationality for more than 6 months AND was 16 years or older at that time THEN the police authorities of that locality.

...lived in a different country for more than 12 months AND was 16 years or older at that time THEN the police authorities of that locality.

...was arrested for any reason, regardless of how long they lived there AND was any age at that time THEN the police authorities of that locality.

From the State Department - Look here by country for all Police Records Requirements for USA Visa application. Follow the directions and it will explain what is needed for each country you have lived in and whether it's required and how to apply.
