Trump's warning of a rigged election stokes anger among followers

Some wore shirts with slogans like [Expletive] Your Feelings or, in reference to the female Democratic nominee, Trump that . Others had buckets of popcorn, ready for the show. When the media entourage entered, thousands erupted in boos.

Anger and hostility were the most overwhelming sentiments at a Trump rally in Cincinnati last week, a deep sense of frustration, an us-versus-them mentality, and a belief that they are part of an unstoppable and underestimated movement. Unlike many in the country, however, these hard-core Trump followers do not believe the real estate moguls misfortunes are of his own making.

They believe what Trump has told them over and over, that this election is rigged, and if he loses, it will be because of a massive conspiracy to take him down.

At a time when trust in government is at a low point, Trump is actively stoking fears that a core tenet of American democracy is also in peril: that you can trust what happens at the ballot box.

His supporters here said they plan to go to their local precincts to look for illegal immigrants who may attempt to vote. They are worried that Democrats will load up buses of minorities and take them to vote several times in different areas of the city. Theyve heard rumors that boxes of Clinton votes are already waiting somewhere.

And if Trump doesnt win, some are even openly talking about violent rebellion and assassination, as fantastical and unhinged as that may seem.

Trump also just called on HRC to take a drug test before the next debate, at his latest rally.

Trump is the worst candidate I have seen in my lifetime. His claims of the election being rigged are going to cause problems after he loses the election. I expect violence will erupt in some parts of the country. I am seriously considering buying one of these so called assault rifles so I can protect my home and family if they start here in my neighborhood.

CHARLOTTE For months, the teleprompters Donald Trump uses at campaign rallies have been a symbol of efforts to keep him on message a sharp departure from the wild, freewheeling speeches that defined his candidacy during the GOP primary, but an acknowledgment of the difficult task of winning a general election.

On Friday, the Republican presidential nominees teleprompters broke down mid-rally.

By the way, he announced abruptly about 20 minutes into his speech, these teleprompters havent been working for the last 20 minutes. And I actually like my speech better without teleprompters.

It was a ready-made metaphor for the disorder afflicting his campaign, amid a weeks-long string of controversies that include several allegations of sexual misconduct and assault. Even as his advisers continue deliberating on how to respond, Trump has appeared resistant to much of their advice. He has instead signaled that he will move forward in the same way he ran his primary campaign: without their script, following his own instincts.

The scene here in Charlotte took a turn toward the literal on Friday night. Frustrated, Trump physically dismantled one of the teleprompters. Then he knocked the other one down.

He shared his thoughts on the matter: You know, its very funny. I went through 17 professional politicians, top people, and I went without any teleprompters. Then all of a sudden, they said, Well now youre running the election, you need teleprompters. And I like tele theyre fine, but its sort of cooler without it, right? Dont you think? I like it better without it. And its a little strange when you see this place. I watch Hillary, shes got the biggest pieces of glass. And sometimes theyre painted black on the other side, because you see better. And she always just reads off the teleprompter and its short and then she goes home and she goes to sleep, he said.

That is true but I haven't seen so many people openly talking about revolution or rebellion. And this is the first election where the candidate is purposefully stirring up his fanatics by calling for Second Amendment solutions if Hillary is elected and calling for her to be locked up.

I see your concern, there definitely seems to be more anger out there than usual. I'm watching all this from outside the US so I can't really feel the zeitgeist of the masses like you guys can actually being there. Just wondering how much of the is just hot air or if anyone will actually act on it. I honestly don't know a single Trump supporter personally, (I've only seen/read angry commenters online), so it's hard for me to wrap my head around his popularity/support.

P.S. Hillary is winning in the VJ 2016 poll!

Overheard in the store today.. one hunter conversing to the other by the rifles that someone should do something to you know who (not Hillary) so that the ''real god-fearing man'' Pence can take over as leadership. They sounded like they were pretty upset that Republicans didn't put Pence up in the first place and that he was stocking up in case something hit the fan. About blew my mind right there. I'm not going to say that he was advocating violence against Trump in the Trumpiest of Trumplands loudly in the middle of the gun section.. but it sure sounded that way. I did notice a few more Clinton signs today than normal.
