This thread is hugely helpful, so thanks to everyone involved!

Question: can everyone expect to receive a checklist from NVC, or does that only come if the AOS/IV packages are incomplete?

We just received our NOA2 on Sept 21st, so I'm going to wait until the 20th to call NVC for the case number. I'm assuming they include the police certificate and the tax returns, etc. as part of the list of documents required for the packet?

You might get a slap on the wrist (as I have a couple times) from the admins for making new questions in other people's threads! hahaha try to create a new thread with your questions.

But I can say that you only get a checklist after you've sent out the AOS/IV packet and there is a problem with you files... either they are missing, illegible, etc... "checklist" in terms of NVC is their equivalent to an RFE of sorts. I agree they should change the name from checklist to something else, since there is an actual checklist we have to send in (it comes in your Welcome Letter) and has us mark down which documents we are submitting within the package.

To start calling on the 20th seems like a very good estimate.

Police Certificate and Tax Documentation will have to be submitted withing the IV and AOS packet, respectively. You still have a few steps to go after NVC receives your package... paying fees and submitting a couple of online forms (DS-261 and DS-260)... etc... make sure you read this:

good luck

Thanks, that clears up all of my questions! And I never seem to converse in the forums correctly. ;)

Just to be clear, when I said You still have a few steps to go after NVC receives your package I meant after NVC receives your I-130 package from USCIS!

How to figure out the date on which USCIS sent file to NVC?

My NOA2 doc arrived on Sept 21st, and I received an email today from USCIS that said they sent my case to the Dept of State for visa processing on Oct 13.

When was you NOA2 notice date?

Edit - NOA2 notice date is officially noted as Sept 21... I received a text/email of the case status, which was updated online saying 'case approved'.

The actual document did not arrive in the mail until around Sept 30. I left to visit my husband in Ireland on 9/25 (returned 10/5), so it arrived at some point while I was gone.

Ok we received ours 9/23 (official date). Our hard copy also came later. I was just trying to figure out where you landed to give us an idea when an email might show up.
