Well, you might want to mention it to your UK friends - wouldn't want them landed with some nasty bill for failing to pay what they're supposed to.

Anyway - you can check with Illinois.

I don't think you need to. I don't think you'd count as an Illinois resident after 4 years away! You don't have a home there, right?

Okay, thanks.

My parents' home address is what is on my credit card I currently use, my driver's license--which I use when I come to visit them in the summer--and is in the databases of the doctors I visit. Does that count as a home? I don't own it, so I imagine not. Just a place I stay one or two months a year.

I see in your signature that you filed directly in London. We are thinking of directly filing. Did you do it all in person? Would you say that's part of why the process was pretty fast? We were thinking of mailing initially then going when it's interview time.

Re home: doesn't sound like it counts.

Re DCF:

Yes, absolutely. Your petition sits in a much smaller queue in a far less busy office and doesn't have to go via the NVC, so a bunch of steps get dropped. Compare my timeline to a regular I-130 timeline, and notice all the boxes of dates I didn't have to track and fill in. :) I believe in China you need to file the I-130 via an appointment at the embassy, so it can't be mailed - but again, that's nice because at least you know it was filed correctly since they checked you gave them the right stuff on the spot.

I can't believe a tax professional told you that you don't need to file taxes in the US! You may end up with a late filing fee. Get this taken care of ASAP! I think for immigration purposes you may only need to file the 2015 taxes; none of this will be relevant for AOS anyway, since your foreign income doesn't count for anything to immigration and your parents are going to be the joint sponsors. But they will require proof that you filed taxes in 2015 (or 2016, I guess, if you're not getting married until next year--in which case you'd avoid the late filing fee).

The IRS is a different situation entirely and you could be in big trouble for not filing taxes the last several years. I agree that it sounds like you wouldn't qualify for paying Illinois state tax, but the federal definitely must be filed.

Im looking at the FAQs here (http://www.visajourney.com/faq/k1faq.htm) on VJ, and I can't find the page specifically pertaining to filling out the I-130 with the intention of getting the CR-1--just K-3. Aren't they different? Or all the requirements the same? I want to make sure what to have ready well before I apply.' Anyone have a link to give?

Thanks in advance again.

You are looking at the K visa FAQs, hence nothing about the CR-1. The processes do start the same, but with the K3, you file more forms after you get NOA1.

Look at the Guides instead: http://www.visajourney.com/content/i130guide1
