Use of the Co-Sponsor in Belgium

I haven't yet filed any paperwork to start the petition because I'm one of those people that must dot all "i"s and cross all "t"s before I start anything, especially something this important.

I met my girlfriend on the internet and we became friends. It quickly grew into so much more. I flew to Belgium to be with her for the summer and upon saying goodbye at the airport we made the decision that she wanted to move here so we could be together.

I thought everything was great. I knew the only problem I would run into is I didn't meet the financial requirement but then found out I could use a co-sponsor and even have a great family friend who is willing to do so. I was browsing and came across a site that I've never seen before while researching and it said that co-sponsors are not allowed in Belgium. I felt my stomach drop.

Then I realized that a lot of people were saying that Manila, Philippines didn't allow co-sponsors either but then I found others who said they had a co-sponsor and everything was fine. Upon more digging I found a post that said that most embassies do accept co-sponsors though some are more picky, looking as to why you're not able to meet the financial income requirements. For instance, being a student is a great reason as to not be able to why you couldn't meet the requirement over someone who was just unemployed or maybe disabled.

I'm 21 and a full time college student graduating this Spring. I have 2 (soon to be 3) jobs and almost $2000 in savings with more expected, as I save on a regular basis, so I know that number will rise by the time the i-134's are needed in the interview. I can take care of my girlfriend without a doubt. It just sucks not having the numbers to satisfy their requirements.

I've read on here countless great reviews about the Consulate in Belgium and a lot of people have great things to say which leads me to believe they just might take the reason for low income into consideration. I've looked on the embassy website and all that's said is the I-134 is needed to verify support. Does anyone know from personal experience (or a credibly source) whether Belgium accepts co-sponsors or what their viewpoints on this matter are? I just want to be happy and do everything legally and be able to be together.

Embassies are not required to accept cosponsors for the K1 I134, but they are required to accept them in CR1/IR1 I864 cases.

Good morning!

I moved your post to the regional forums (Europe), because your question is embassy specific and you may be better assisted.
