Israel says money from British taxpayers was funnelled to Hamas to build the base by a senior Palestinian official with World Vision, a major Christian charity that has been handed millions of pounds by the UK's Department for International Development (Dfid).

Shin Bet, Israel's intelligence agency, has arrested the official, Mohammad el Halabi, on charges of infiltrating World Vision and aiding terrorists. Israel believe he passed £33 million intended to relive poverty to Hamas to pay its salaries and train its troops.

Hamas, which seeks the elimination of Israel, is identified as a proscribed terrorist organisation by Britain, the EU and the US

If they took even half the money and supplies meant for the people of Gaza and actually did with it what it is for, there would be significantly less poverty. But what's important to them isn't their own people - it's to build more tunnels and more weapons arsenal.

I don't doubt this story actually, knowing what I have known over the years about WV. I could tell you some concerning tales..

Take this story for instance. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/03/world/middleeast/worldvision-palestinians-sponsor-a-child.html?_r=0 This is the sort of scam they run in all of these villages, not just Palestine. In the old days some of the supposed children did respond in hand written letters, especially from some of the African and Asian villages, but this became less and less. I can tell you at some point there was an alarming security breach at one of their offices in a village that is now overrun by militants, and the project essentially closed up shop. I don't know what happened to the children... I fear they are dead. The militants have actually used the data collected from those offices to run money scams on unsuspecting Americans, probably to help fund their organizations. WV will give investigating Americans little data or assistance on these accusations, from what digging I've just done myself it's a frightening look at the exploitation of children for financial gain, with shady dealings in a variety of areas.

WV always clarified where the money was going; a water filtration system for his village, school supplies for several children in his village. A personal card or note from my sponsored child was not why I sent the money, it was just marketing collateral to keep me interested. My family used to think WV was a completely above board organization. It is not, and over the past 10 years or so something really changed. The NYT article regarding the Palestine children is true. Do you not think that this is completely exploiting for financial gain? It's not the first time they've been caught doing this. Very often the children have no idea that someone has used their faces in order to make money. WV does a lot of claiming of where your money goes, but do they provide hard evidence to back this up? One well known investigation was conducted in 2008, and you can find the story as recorded on their Wikipedia page. The results of that investigation were nearly identical to recent findings from NYT. From 08 to 13 large sums of money simply went missing. The account I mentioned regarding the African program was also true. There is an ongoing security breach at WV with donors private information which has come into the hands of terrorist militants using donors for financial gain. Charity Nav's rating used to have WV barely scraping the bottom of a 2 star rating, recently being upgraded to 3, but still not scoring as high as other similar organizations. Give Well has also been similarly skeptical. That was even before the LGBT debacle within the organization. Employees have been caught doing shady things before. One of these such scams running from Uganda as mentioned here https://www.theguardian.com/money/2008/apr/05/scamsandfraud operates using data breached from WV and others. There are several other WV data breach scams, and I have more than enough physical proof which was turned over to the appropriate authorities at the time.

So I would say if you feel your money is going to the appropriate place without threat of security breach and you are completely comfortable where the money is going and the safety of those children, then that's fine. But underneath the feel-goodness of charity is a deeper problem which they have yet to address unless when periodically pressed to do so by police investigation.
