My question is

Can I work oversea if I am green card holder.

Let's say:

1- my wife(USC) lives in America

2- I pay rent and I have a lease

3- I pay tax.

4- I have health insurance and car insurance in USA

5- I pay for utilities and phone bill under my name

6- I have a bank and credit card accounts in US

Every 6 months or less I will come to US to see my wife. I'm not planning to work oversea for long time. Let's say 2-4 years.

What do you think?

You can apply for a re-entry permit to stay outside the US for two years.

If it isn't difficult, it isn't worth it.

If the USCIS determines that you spend a lot more time outside of the U.S. than inside, there might be a bit of a problem when you re-enter. They do track the length of absences.

The thing is, you are a Green Card holder by virtue of a marriage to a U.S. citizen. If you only dive into the US every 6 months to visit for a couple of weeks, is that a 'valid marriage'? I don't know; but if I were the CO, I think I'd wonder about that. Marriage is more than just paying the rent, paying the bills.

You have to be in the U.S. more than spending significant time in any other country, to keep your status, I believe. The U.S. has to be considered your 'principal dwelling place' and your work situation outside the country has to be completely temporary in nature.

Anyone else, please weigh in with an opinion.

You can get a re-entry permit that allows you to stay out for 2 years. But always keep in mind that a green card is for living in the US, not visiting- with a green card you are never guaranteed re-entry into the US.

I see. Thank you for your advices. My wife and I have a wonderful life we have been married since 2010. Working abroad is temporary offcourse.it is one year renewable contract. I will consider the re entry permit in that case. I'm not 1% intending to live somewhere else than US

Just wanted to reiterate that a re-entry permit does not guarantee your re-entry. it is at the discretion of CBP
