What do you do to pass the time waiting for GC

The waiting game can be very tough to win!

Got the misses a car so not she isn't waiting for me to get home from work or a friend to pick her up to go out. We got her a used 2007 Chevy Malibu and a satnav so she can go out on her own. This way if something happens like a fender bender no big loss on the car. She is very good on driving anyway, just some small issues with intersection lanes and some signs. You know in England, they are used to driving on the other side of the road! She has wheels now so she doesn't feel like a shut in anymore!

My wife is volunteering at two dog shelters and now is volunteering at a hospice care center to console the terminally ill. They were very happy that she is a vet and has experience in care giving for the disabled so its a win win for us and them. She has to get biometrics for the care center which is funny. Hopefully when she gets her green card, this stuff will look good on her resume and translate in to a job.

Otherwise,

She goes food shopping

She like working in our garden,

We have two shelter dogs ourselves that she spends a lot of time with,

She goes to bingo with my mum a couple of times a week,

She likes to make candles as a hobby,

She likes to cook, I have never eaten so good,

And she has made a couple of friends on her own and has made friends with the wives of some of my friends so that is very cool!

For me, she is having me paint and remodel the whole house so now I very busy now myself lol

She got a care package (English Foods) the other day which included Hula Hops so she is very happy!

It's nice that we don't have to worry about her having to go back in three months anymore so now finely we're living our lives together!

How does your foreign spouse stay busy until the green card arrives now that you guys can stay together?

Timeline

My wife, having english as a second language, has primarily focused on her english by taking free classes at the local community college. From what I know, most community colleges do offer these classes free, which allows recent residents to continue their education without paying out of state or international tuition rates. She's met many friends at school.

Like your wife, she loves to cook and bake. I've actually lost 20 pounds in the last year because I eat more healthy and more reasonable portions. Also, since she's a gym rat, she inspires me to run my 4 mile running route about twice a week instead of twice a month.

We're looking for a house and so she's really taken to the search. I thought she was rather lukewarm to the idea of home ownership until I got pre-approved for a loan. I guess that made it real for her and she's doing everything from scouting out neighborhoods to pricing appliances.

We also occasionally take swing dancing classes.

Your wife seems to be doing great. Volunteering is a great idea. Me and my wife have done that in the past, individually, but haven't done it since she arrived here 10 months ago.

Wishing you continued good luck in your marriage. I find that it's not easy but it is very rewarding.

Amen Chas. Amen.

My husband has been busy looking for work and also polishing his portfolio. He designs and programs video games and mathematical algorithms for a living, so most of the time I have no idea a lot of the jargon and maths he is talking about. He has brought me into the designing and development phase of his work, so for now I'm helping him on the artwork. We aim to have a program completed soon to present to potential developers.

We live in a tiny town, so there is not a lot to do, but we take trips regularly and take advantage of all the state parks with hiking and exercise. He's also very handy around the house, which has been a blessing. We also enjoy gardening. It's a simple life right now, but we are quiet people.

Timeline

I can't drive so I can't go out much. I just take care of everything in the house, chores, groceries shopping and cooking. I will do some DIYs and make some youtube videos.

I can still go out sometime as bus comes every 30 mins to the nearest mall. I spent so much time in watching TV shows too. I start X-files from season 1 two-three weeks ago.

I was in a legal field + procurement field for 10 years, planning to study for some certs which will look good on my resume when GC is ready. Also, planning to join gym or kickboxing class, still deciding.

Volunteering is actually a good idea. I should see where i can volunteer (but without a car, it's not easy for me to move around.

...<snip>...

Honestly, as a gamer its sad to see that i am really growing tired of games....

This is me right now!

3 months ago I thought I'd be jumping at the chance of 3 months "off" and playing games all day - now I'm bored of everything :D

Other than video games I stalk the mail lady and wait for my husband to get off work so we can continue our netflix marathons. I've been sprucing up my resume and taking the time to learn some coding stuff and a foreign language online.

Hopefully I get some news on my EAD soon so I can get my drivers license and a job for human contact again - its pretty much impossible to do anything where we live without a car.

Before Daniel got his EAD, he did everything around the house from cleaning to cooking to projects. Walked the dogs every day. Practiced driving - he's from central London and had never driven before. Those things kept him pretty busy and kept him feeling like he was a productive member of the household.

Once the EAD came, he found a job immediately and is making friends at work now.

Definitely find something to occupy your time is key. It makes the time go by quicker, too.
