Visa comes in passport name

Green card comes in visa name.

However, you can change the green card after arrival in the USA. If you don't do it at the time you remove conditions, you can pay $450 to get a new green card in your new name. However if you book any travel outside the USA, I highly suggest booking in passport name and bringing your marriage certificate as proof of who you are when you reenter the USA.

You can also wait until the time which you remove your conditions to change your name.

Also when you get state ID or an SSN you can bring your marriage certificate and request those ID pieces to be in your married name.

Can anyone chim in on this?

I've seen others saying that the last name could be changed at POE.

If so, would that also change the SSC?

I'm in a similar situation, all documentation and forms are in maiden name, is there any way to change that at the interview?

Curious also as I filed my i-130 in my maiden name, purely because my name change documents haven't been formalised yet so all my ID is in my maiden name.

I assumed I have to pay the fee and do a name change when I'm in the USA, but definitely curious to hear if it's able to be done at POE

The advice to get a new passport doesn't work for every country. As not all countries allow that. Honduras for example just adds... which makes it worse.

So I would like some confirmation as well on name change at POE.

As the process has started do not worry about the name change. When you reach your POE you will be taken to a small processing room and at that time you can request that your name be changed to your married name. It is the easiest and least confusing of any option. Just be sure to do it before leaving the processing room. Any information from that point on such as your GC will have your requested name change. My wife and I went through this and we never had one moment's problem. Just make sure from that point to write your married name on any document.

As to the passport, it is difficult for Colombians to change the name on their passports (this discussion happens here from time to time) whether in Colombia or at a consulate here in the U.S. My wife has travelled several times back and forth and was only one time asked for her marriage license which was the first time she came.
