G-4 vs. H1B visa: which is the easier option?

Hello everyone,

I would like some advice on visa types. I will ask my employer as well, but maybe someone here can help, too.

I will be coming to the US this year on a G-4 (international organizations employees) visa and my partner/boyfriend would like to come with me. So for him, what would be the easier option: a G-4 visa for spouses, or the "normal" H1B visa for employment? He has a Masters degree and works in IT, so qualifications are not really a problem for the H1B. For the G4 dependent type, we'd have to get married, but that's easy. I am just wondering what would be easier and less stressful to get - the G4 or the H1B?

Well nothing about immigration is easy

and nothing about marriage is easy.

That being said I would think he would need to find a company there would sponsor him for the H1B visa.

(I don't know anything about those visas but wish you the best of luck)

At this point G4 for spouse is the better option. For H1b, an employer in the US has to offer him a job first, then file petition for him. Since this year qouta is already filled in, the employer can file for him in April 1 of 2017. Then he should get selected in the H1b lottery, get approved and then get H1B visa to be able to enter US in October of 2017.

Oh yes, true...I haven't checked the exact dates of the filling period :-( So, that pretty much solves my question. And I guess there's really no point in going down the "lottery route" for H1B - I have a much, much higher chance of getting the G4 dependent visa for him.

Think he will need EAD to work so there will be a long holiday for him.
