*shrugs* Alot of people feel they "deserve" things. For instance, you work hard and long but don't get paid nearly enough to afford a vacation,. but you still want to take one because well, it's been several years since the last time and you feel you need to be rewarded for working so hard and take a break. So you will just put it on a credit card because, you feel you DESERVE it regardless of whether or not you can afford it or not. I don't completely disagree with that, everyone needs a vacation or to buy something they want, not just need every once in a while, regardless of their financial situation - the problem is they get addicted to it and do it way too often.

you basically described why i've taken my son to the beach a few times in the past 5 years. i'm going to be working forever, the time for family vacays are going to come and go and if i was 'responsible' about it and only went when i could afford it we'd never go. it's not that i feel i deserve it, it's more - what the hell is the point in working forever if you can't live life every once in a while?

i do think there is a difference between going to the beach for a few days and charging the expense and putting say a cruise or a trip to disneyland every year. like, splurge a bit outside your means but don't get carried away.

I definitely understand that mindset because I've come from it myself up until about 7-8 years ago and I still know way too many people who are still in that place as well. If all you do is work and go home to sleep then really you're not living life and so if living life means you need to live a little bit outside your means that's one thing. On the other hand - you do get those who get carried away and those are the ones who usually end up in big trouble.

No harm in that but when you run up 40k in cc debt, 100k in student loans, and get you car repo then file bankruptcy, it coat us all. Don't moan and gripe when shoot your credit to hades then can't but the smoke off a hot dog

Don't think anybody here advocated that. But you can't always just save money till you die, either.

I know , all that wasted booze
