On the I131 Part 3 the section asks for Date of Intented Departure and Expected length of journey.

What do we enter for this?

On the I485 there is question about K1 expiry, do we enter the date of expiration for the visa or the expiry of I94?

Also our Marriage certificate still shows the maiden name of my wife(there wasn't any option to change during registration) and court said we have to change name at the SS office, so where do we add her new name on the forms, SSN is in maiden name and SS says they go by immigration records.

Thank you.

You can write a random date and length, or you can print out the form and handwrite UNKNOWN in the space.

The I-485 is asking about your current status in the US, and when that status will expire. You need to write the expiry date on the I-94.

In order to change your name at the SS office, you will likely need to update your name with immigration first. The best way to do this, is apply for the AOS/EAD/AP in your married name. Your marriage certificate is a legal name change document which allows you to legally change your name, even if only the maiden names are shown on the marriage certificate.

When you file your AOS/EAD/AP in your married name, you will receive your EAD/AP and green card in your married name. You can bring the EAD/AP card OR green card to the SS office and change the name on your SSN to your married name.

The new form does not let you use TBD or unknown, you can only select dates. Just pick one approx 4 months from know.

Hi there,

Thanks for your post :) :) I am unclear what you mean by the above and I thought I'd ask!

Are you saying that one should only write dates otherwise you would risk rejection if you write "Unknown/TBD"? I couldn't see anything in the instructions about that so I don't think that is what you meant.

Or, instead, are you saying that you just physically aren't able to type in letters into the form? I was able to type in UNKNOWN on the form quite easily for both questions, per the attached screenshot.

Thank you for helping us out with the questions :)

Simon.

P.S. I hope I'm not hijacking the thread! My question seems pertinent to the conversation.

When I filled it out in Jan. the version I had did me let put anything in other than dates. Hence my option to just pick a date.

You may want to make sure you have the latest form (from the USCIS website).

If you are able to type unknown than that is fine.

The new forms are getting bar-codes on the bottom. These bar-codes change when you enter data in adobe. For those that want to hand write things, this means that those field you fill in by hand do not show up when they scan the bar-code.

If you are able to type in Unknown, then do that. You can also leave those fields blank and hand write Unknown for them after printing out the form. It will work that way, even with the form having a bar code. People do it all the time. The form instructions state you can type or print legibly in black ink. Since the answer would be N/A, if you have no travel plans, then you could also follow the instructions and type N/A for those answer fields as well.
