My Yana had her VISA Interview this morning at the US Embassy in KYIV....She passed the interview with flying colors.

Yana said that it was a five minutes question and answer and the staff in Kyiv are very professional and friendly.

The actual visa will be delivered through their local courier (Fedex???) in a day or two maybe....I hope. At this point in time, I am making arrangements for her flight from Donetsk to San Diego and I would certainly welcome any comments as far as travel agencies and or flight tickets are concerned.

One of the most important lessons I learned from this journey so far is that:

-a week after you get your NOA2-email your respective embassy and inquire about your approved petition

-Do not wait for packet 3 and 4 (they can get lost in the mail).......Download them from the embassy site.....Ask your embassy if you can email the appointment letter/Interview date request (KEV1 for Ukraine) on behalf of your fiance'e/fiance because you are absolutely sure that she/he has all the documents.

-Police certificate is good for 12 months from date of issuance (Ukraine) which I think is the only time sensitive document (next to approved petition timeframe).

Good Luck to everyone on queue!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on your fiancee passing the interview! I'm glad to hear the good reviews about the Kiev consulate. As you see my fiancee is from UA also. Odessa to be exact. As far as travel agencies, etc. from Donetsk to San Diego. I had flown into Donetsk last year on DonBasso airlines. It's an internal flight within UA. I think it only costs about $60-80 to fly into Kiev. From there, you get to choose from commercial airlines into the US. I fly out of San Francisco and head to UA. Your fiancee may have to transfer through a few airports to get to the west coast. I would probably look at LOT Polish or Austrian Airlines and see what kind of more direct flights you can get. I'm sorry I couldn't help any more. But I do have a friend living in Odessa who I can put you in touch with. He works with a travel agent there for the American men that head over there.

I saw your photo. Are you Filipino?

Hi,

I pretty much concur on everything you pointed out. Nadya actually got her packet 3 a week after her interview.(Talk about snail mail) The staff was very professional and really seemed to want to help in every way. E-mailing is a must if you require answers to your questions. They do reply, usually within a day or 2. It did take about a week for her to get the visa by a Ukrainian contract delivery company hired by FED EX. Of course, this was to Sevastopol. I am now looking for a inexpensive ticket to Chicago. Do Ukrainian Citizens need a visa to transit through Warsaw by air? The end is almost in sight!!!

It took my fiancee (now wife) about a week to get her visa and she lived in Kyiv. So, make your plans accordingly. I found that if they book the flight (always get a round trip with 90 day return) and you pay for it with a credit card, then you can probably save money. The costs generally are cheaper for them than for us. Americans pay the highest for everything.

If you can manage for her to fly directly into your area (San Diego) I always thought that was best for their point of entry. That way if there is a problem, you are in the airport already. Although problems are rare, why take the chance.

Also, give her three weeks to a month to begin to adjust her body clock. She is going to be exhausted from the trip but the change is really hard on their bodies. Let her get plenty of rest. She will likely get a little homesick about a month after arriving so find some stores with Russian/Ukrainian goods for a little taste of home for her.

Congratulations and best of luck. You are going to have a great adventure together.

P.S. Don't forget to notify your credit card company first before giving authorization on the flight.

Hello

Scott - saruno1958 -

What I did for my wife who is from Sevastopol is have her fly to Kiev on Aerosvit from Simferopol and from there she took a direct flight to New York (JFK) from Kiev on Aerosvit. I met her in New York and flew back to Missouri with her. I know the New York airport is a little bit too much for someone arriving for the 1st time but I helped her out.

As far as the west coast I am not sure, but the direct flight on Aerosvit to New York is a very good deal. I believe we paid around $600 usd for that direct flight.

Just my 2 cents here,

BDS

San Diego has a relatively large Russian community. Besides, I am almost sure, she will not be missing home anytime soon. San Diego is a great plase to be. Well, Kiev is not to shuby either, espesially in a few weeks when chesnuts trees begin to bloom. I would also recoment AiroSwit - very good service.

Congratulations!

Congrats to you and Yana,

Thanks for posting your experience and "lessons". I'm hoping my Susanna will have her interview by the end of May while I'm there in Kiev. I received my NOA2 email on the 1st of March. After a week did the embassy know anything about your petition? When and how did you get your case number?

best regards,

John
