My mother is widow holding British Passport but residing in India, and she has travelled to USA once on ESTA visa for 2 months. She is planning to attend USA visa interview. What are the chances that she will get the visa , based on her current situation being widow and I am her only child present in USA on non-immigrant status.

Why can't she just stay for 3 months?

The fact she is eligible for VWP makes it unlikely she will be given a B2.

She should be happy she can stay 3 months without a need for a visa instead of trying to be greedy.

Dang!! The woman is trying to do it legally. Some people came here quietly on VWP knowing very well they plan to marry, adjust and stay while other just stay here illegally. But OP's mum is trying to go through it the right way.Cut her some slack.

If your mum has stronger ties back home and she has compelling reasons why 3 months (from the VWP) won't meet the amount of time she needs to accomplish whatever she is coming here for, she might get a visa. Older people rarely get tough time. She should be honest and if it doesn't work out..she can just use the VWP and make use of the 3 months.

Good luck to her.

Is she as an OAP?

Speaking as a grandparent 5 months seems excessive. She can do a few months on the VWP.

Wow, my parents get a week to two weeks a year with grandkids...5 months does seem excessive for this reason alone.

If the plan is to have her babysit for those 5 months, bear this in mind: if her B2 visa application is denied, her VWP goes away for quite some time.....there is realistically little reason to 'need' to spend 5 months instead of 3 with the grandkids....unless.......how old is the youngest one?

She wont be giving the reason as spending time with my child. she will be syaing like tourism and family visit. Lets say her VWP goes away , there is scenario wherein her passport is expiring next year , can i reapply for ESTA next year with new passport and get her here for 3 months.

She'd still have to declare the visa denial
