Hello all. My fiance has been approved since November for her visa interview. She went to Manila in January for her medical exam. She was 10 weeks pregnant at the time. The doctors refused to perform the examination due to her pregnancy and wouldn't continue until she got clearance from her ob-gyn. So that was a wasted trip for her and financially for me. No where on the St. Lukes website does it say she needs clearance from her doctor. Anyways, she goes back to get her clearance after we rescheduled her visa interview. The problem is now is that her doctor won't clear her for the chest x-ray until after shes 7 months pregnant. She went to a few doctors for a second opinion and they told her the same thing. My sister is a pediatric nurse here in CA so I know for a fact that it's a harmless procedure so I don't understand why the doctors there don't seem to think so unless the methods of x-ray are that mediocre. The situation totally sucks because her interview is next week and most likely we'll have to reschedule her visa appointment again. Has anyone been through this situation? Any advice at this point is helpful otherwise we'll have to wait four months in order for her to take the chest x-ray. Thanks in advance.

Your suggestions are well intended, but I wouldn't quote something that is more than a year or two old if that. The website you offered is more than 5 years old. Current information is always best.

I read that thread already, thanks.

Unfortunately...you'lll need to wait. You would really want to rush the process of paperwork versus the health of your unborn baby? Sounds like you put the cart before the horse! lol Think of long term if something was to happen, worst case scenario. Would you even be prepared for a child with brain damage? Sure the radiation is low, but there is always that chance and your first 3 mos pregnant are when everything is super sensitive to outside elements.

I find it strange that on their website they state that proper shielding will be available. Here is what you probably read as I am quoting.

"II. All visa applicants 15 years old and above, male or female, are required to have chest x-ray to immigrate. Pregnant women will have proper shielding as a precautionary measure of radiation hazards. Pregnant applicants may have an option to defer medical examination including chest x-ray until delivery."

Just one caution. If you cancel more than twice then you will have to wait 90 days and pay your interview fees again before being allowed to schedule again. Plan ahead.

Thanks for the response, Greenbaum. Yes, I'm well aware of the 90 days and the interview fee. I'm basically trying to see if anyone has ever had this experience that my fiance and I are having now. This whole getting the proper clearance from her ob-gyn. Like I said, it states nothing of the such on the St. Lukes website unless the website isn't current.

The 2nd interview fee was dropped some time back.

Restrictions to Changing Appointments

Please be reminded that even though nonimmigrant visa fees are valid for one calendar year, options to schedule an appointment are limited. The U.S. Embassy in Manila schedules hundreds of thousands of nonimmigrant visa appointments each year and must accommodate requests both for new appointments and for those applicants who need to reschedule their appointments for whatever reason. Applicants are only allowed to reschedule twice (not including the initial appointment) without penalty. If the second rescheduling attempt is canceled, an applicant will only be allowed to reschedule a new date after a waiting period of 90 days. Please plan your visa application accordingly to avoid problems securing an interview appointment.
