My fiance (He's American, I'm Canadian) filed our I-129 last week, we got out NOA1, just a few days later.... I checked out the Vermont SC and it said they're just processing forms from August? How reliable is this information?? I'm trying to plan my life, so any info/help you can give would be appreciated!! I'm very new to this process and still trying to figure it out....

ALSO - is there anything else I should be doing to help speed the process along?? Stuff I can get done ahead of time?

No. The processing times on the website is not very accurate. I don't know why it is like that. However, many people have gotten their k-1 petition approved within 1-month from VSC. Some even gotten it approved in 8 days! So, if you have all the paperwork filed as requested by the instruction you most likely will get approval very quickly.

I think I love you.

I was really losing hope - I had to file for divorce (We've been seperated for over 7 years) prior to beginning the visa journey - so it's been a long road already.

Thank you for the glimmer of hope!!! :)

Here is some more realistic times:

http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/

You can probably gage a better idea from there

At the end of the day, it all depends on where you are filing. If you file at Vermont you can have approval in 30 days or less, file at Nebraska, Texas or California (all get forwarded to Cal anyway) it can take 90 days give or take (all assuming no mistakes). Then you have to allow time to fill out further forms before an interview which can take around 2-5 months depending on embasseys (not sure about the Canadian one though...)

Ahead of time? Make sure you have your sponsor has his 'sponsor' stuff ready, tax forms, other supporting evidence. Make sure you have your police certificate in time (also making sure it doesn't go out of date...)

Check out the guides

Good luck

Welcome to VJ!

The only advice I could give is to read the guides that Tonyeck gave you the links to.

These are extremely helpful, I have spend hours and hours reading over the guides and peoples posts to get a better grasp on the whole process.

Vermont is the fastest service center, I was issued my NOA2 (approval for I-129F) 5 days after it was delivered by mail. Not everyone is quite so speedy, but Vermont really has been fast. (Thanks to them my Fiance now thinks I am a paperwork God and he worships me at a small shrine in the kitchen...just kidding) :innocent:

Make sure you follow all the checklists and complete everything it asks for, that will reduce the risk of getting any RFE's (request for Evidence) to clarify things for the USCIS.

Good Luck on your journey!

Sue

Why think of the negative when you can help them? That's where I don't understand. Our developed society has become increasingly stressed, but he/she asked nicely. They're not looking for any problems. We can't be negative towards the new generation.

The date shown on the USCIS Processing Times Website is the oldest one they are processing. (You would think it would reflect the newest one.) It does not mean they are only processing petitions received on/before that date. I freaked (like everyone else) when I saw it and had to research it.

From what I've read - it is that way so anyone with that date or later should know to call them to follow up (sounds like fuzzy logic to me). So there you have it, the answer to the question. It is better to go by the Guides and Timelines here - if you plug in your timeline, the system will give you a pretty realistic expectation.

You can never really go by the times online,it can be sooner than that. You guys filed at the Vermont Service Center, they are known for doing the cases pretty fast...which is good :).

You can look at other guys timelines that filed at the Vermont Service Center, just to get an idea.

You can already tell your finance to start gathering documents for the Affidavit of support. You can get your birth certificate already incase you dont have one anymore and can also get the police record paper you need...this is only valid 6 monthes though...so you might consider getting this when you guys get your NOA2 or pack 3.

You can also look into the shots you need and do the shots that you still might need.
