someone is living in a parked car...

There is a semi-abandoned vehicle parked in front (well across the street) of our house and its been there for almost a week now. I asked one of the neighbors if its their car they said no. Then we figured out that someone must be living in that car. Today we saw a beat up car parked behind the semi-abandoned car and a young girl went and grabbed something from it and then drove away. Good thing my father in law was there and he looked into the car and saw a tiny dog. So yeah, when husband came home, we called the police to report it. Police came an hour or so later, we thought that after the police talked to them they will move their car. When we came back from doing errands, the car is still there. It is already scaring me that the person who lives there might already be too familiar with our routine and schedule and might do something bad when husband is at work or when we're out of town. I might just be paranoid but better be safe than sorry. Any tips on how to go about this?

Call the police again and insist on action, because you're frightened.

In addition, this sounds like one of the very, very, very, very, very few things that a Homeowners' Association might be good for. If the police again do nothing and you have an HOA, call the HOA office and have them intercede with the police.

Yeah i might look into the Neighborhood CCRs and see if there is something useful there. I know about the 72hr rule about parking but the car has been moving a few feet at a time (every other day because i remember it being parked about 10feet away 4 days ago) so I guess that's why the cops didn't make him move the car or park somewhere else. But if the day after tom and the car is still parked in front of our house (even if it moved a few feet), i am gonna call the police again. Can i just tell them that there's a suspicious car parked in front and its making me frightened?

Sure, and say that it appears that the car is being moved a few feet every day to comply (in spirit only) with the 72-hour rule.

Not all poor people are thieves or threats to your life or home. Sometimes bad things happen to good people and they end up living in their cars.

As a Catholic, please have some compassion for those less fortunate then you rather than see them as a threat to you. You don't know them. You don't know what happened.

Volunteer at a homeless shelter like Saint Vincent de Paul with the Catholic Church, and you will see the homeless as people. Some with problems. Others had bad circumstances - like a single mother who got sick for a week, lost her job, lost her apartment, and ended up homeless with her kids.

It is pretty hard to have compassion if you're too scared about your safety. Some people wont do any harm but a person can get desperate enough and who knows what he'll do then. Let us not look at it in a wholistic view about homeless people and being catholic, they never bothered me before until now, when one is living in front of our house and always sees the comings and goings around the neighborhood. Yes I am a bit paranoid and scared about it.

Oh lol my bad. I just looked out the window and car is still there *sigh*. Husband says its a bad idea to walk up to the car and let the dog out, i am not even sure if the dog is still there. Car is heavily tinted and has towels hanging the front windows to cover whatever is inside.
