Hey all! I have a few questions about the i-864 form.

1) Can I abbreviate California as CA? The pdf won't let me type in California and instead it lets me select among state abbreviations.

2) I'm going to be leaving a lot of the sections of the form blank. Such as the the preparer's information and the interpreter's information. Should I fill out those blank fields with N/A?

I also don't need to fill out the assets section so I was wondering if I should leave it blank since it's optional or if I should write N/A there too?

Ok, our case was just completed at NVC so I feel more comfortable about answering the second question as well :)

Since I don't have a middle name, my wife put a dash in pen in the printed out form (that we filled in on the computer) as the input field doesn't allow for dashes/hyphens and to avoid any potential confusion. Everything else that wasn't applicable, however, we had left blank and that wasn't a problem (of course, YMMV). Do include even the blank pages when you submit the form, I know it seems like common sense, but I've read someone just didn't send those and they had to send the form again.

I'm so sorry for the late reply! So you left sections like the interpreter's section blank as well? I've heard it's okay to leave the assets section blank if you're not using assets to qualify. However, I wasn't sure about the other sections.

Yes, we left anything that did not apply blank, so things such as: other family members sponsored (so in the whole of Part 3 we checked yes under 1 and filled in 1 under item 28), A number and ELIS number for my wife (she doesn't have any) and ELIS number for me, we did fill out zeroes in Part 5 Household Size where it applied. In Part 6, since we didn't have any joint sponsors and her pay was enough to qualify, we left almost everything blank (filled out 1.a, 1.a.1, 2, 15, 18.a, 18.b, 19a-c), Part 7 (assets) we left entirely blank, as well as Parts 9 and 10 (interpreter and preparer other than sponsor), but be sure to include all of the pages even the ones left entirely blank otherwise you might get a checklist because that'll mean you've sent an incomplete form!

The only problem I see is your middle name.

I would leave it blank and if concerned about it make a note on page 12..

I feel a little reluctant leaving anything blank. I was planning on just filling all the blank spaces with N/A except for the assets section because I don't want them to think I don't have any if I put that. I'm hoping this will be okay but thank you for sharing your experience!
