I just wanted to give everyone an update. After waiting a year I finally received a response from USCIS in the form of an RFE. I'm pretty upset. My status online did not change. I received the notice in the mail.

I wouldnt be upset, at least someone looked at your file.  Just give them the extra information.  As I had said in my post earlier in this thread, the local uscis officer told me that they are asking for more information a lot more these days.

So hopefully an approval is near and we won't end up needing to go back to get the stamp! Fingers crossed!

I dont think uscis has an consistent answer on whether the receipt letter extends from the GC date or the letter date itself.  regardless, its good news that your case was assigned

Thank you for the response. Now that I've had a chance to digest it, I'm feeling better. I literally read the letter and came right on here because I feel like you all understand the stress that comes along with all of this. I will let you know what happens!

Ouch, they know how to "surprise" us :/ What is the RFE asking for? And what is your local filing office?

Well it surprized you in a way that you don't like but at least you know they are working on your case now.

I'm wondering if mine is still at background check

My local filing office is Vermont. They are asking for more evidence. It's a bit difficult because my husband and I don't have shared credit cards, loans, cars and we don't own our home. We're drawing up wills and powers of attorney, sending our 2015 joint tax returns, our joint health insurance information, our shared cell phone bills, submitting more bank statements (we sent every statement beginning in September 2013 through to the present) and providing notarized Affidavits.

I'm at a loss for what else to submit.  We're considering speaking with an immigration attorney.

But when I read the email, it's just a survey email. So disappointed!

Hello! I'm pretty late on the bandwagon but just wanted to include myself on this thread since I'm a Jan 2016 filer through Vermont. Not sure I've done the timeline thing right... can somebody confirm? I still haven't gotten approval and still see the same message when I check my status (your case was filed or something like that). Started getting nervous so wanted to join the conversation!

congrats to you. Finally you waiting has comes to an end.  It seems they are not processing of who applied first or by date.  Well, its already February and I am still in my waiting.....
