Hi guys..question..can my wife travel out of the states while waiting for the removal of residency?..as of right now her status is still processing...its says on her I-751 reciept that it is extended for 1year for work and travel..would this be good enough proof if she was to return back to the states?..has anyone used this as proof of return?..please let me know..thanks!

There are lots of posts about people coming and going during the 1 year extension and their experiences. Some are good and some are not.

Agree with NLR.

It seems that some airlines, and immigration officials of some other countries have had issues with the extension letter. I would check with the respective airlines specific countries immigration offices to verify their policy.

From our own experience, my wife and I took a day trip from Seattle to Vancouver BC when her ROC was in process. We took each of our unexpired passports, her expired GC, the I-797 ROC receipt/extension letter and a copy of our marriage certificate. We had no problems coming or going at the US/Canada border crossing at Blaine, WA. YMMV.

Good luck on your immigration journey.

Very inconvenient time, not only suppose to carry that expired green card with you at all times, but that extension letter as well, around here, just had my wife carry a copy, but had to take the original with us when going abroad. You don't want to lose the original. Would have been far more convenient if they just sent us a card, like a ten year card.

No problem leaving, just coming back, and not with the airlines, but the person behind that POE counter, if they give you problems, politely ask to speak to their supervisor.

Second thought, maybe she did have to show it to the airlines, no longer had a visa in her passport, really can't recall for sure, was braindead after waiting in those very long lines for hours. Then those airline seats are made for a two year old, not a 6'2" guy.
