Hi i have been online dating with my girlfriend for a year now we met for the first time a week ago and the connectiom between us is fantastic. We'd loke tostart the process of getting a visa but are completely blind to what it entails.

We have 4 questions that we need help to start us off.

How long does a K1 visa stay valid?

How much would it cost?

How long does the process take?

She lives in Texas and i am from England, is it easier for me to get to Texas or vice versa ?

Here is a chart with the prices and comparisons.

This journey takes research and a lot of reading on your part.

Best of Luck!

Thank you for responding!

We have been trying to decide if it would be better for me, the American to move to the UK or if it would be easier for him, the Englishman to move to Texas.

We have read a lot of different articles about America being very hard to immigrate into.

[1] Ki visa is usually valid for 6 months

[2] Visa fees $340

[3] Check the current processing time. TSC is slow, CSC is first.

[4] Could not understand the last question

I just want to add to this because only mentioning the visa fee is pretty misleading.

The original application fee is $340, correct, but you also should think about the cost of the medical and the DS-160.

Currently medical for London is £250. I don't remember the DS-160 fee off the top of my head but I am sure it was at least $100.

Not to mentioned the AOS fee you will have to pay eventually which is currently $1050.

It's going to come closer to about $1500-$2000 in the end.

Thank you!

That's super helpful.

I noticed on your timeline you seem to be moving to the UK.

Did you guys choose for you to move to the UK for any particular reason? I don't mean to get too personal but we may be in similar situations.

There were a few reasons, yes!

And don't worry I don't mind sharing.

Most of it had to do with where I am in my education/career path compared to him.

I am about to finish my second college degree and had just enrolled in law school when we made the decision, and he had not yet even started uni, so career opportunity wise it just seemed more practical for me to stay here.

I also have my own place already in the US while he is still living with his parents over there.

He also really enjoyed the US and felt really at home with my family. Even before we met he never saw himself staying in England forever.

As for the visa-related reasons (probably the thing you actually care about haha) after some research we did learn that it really isn't much easier to move to England.

The reason for this is that for both the US Fiance Visa and the UK Fiance Visa, you need to provide an Affidavit of Support.

This is basically a document that lists how much you make and how much money you own and you need to make and/or own a certain amount in order to prove that when your fiance moves to the country, you will be able to provide for them and they will not become a burden on the state.

For the UK fiance visa, this means a minimum income of £18,600 for a household of 2 (you + your new wife), which considering his income is non-existent right now, was going to be an issue.

Like I mentioned before, the US fiance visa also has the same sort of requirements. Here it is $19,912.

Now when you calculate for the conversion rate and also the higher median income for British Citizens it comes down to about the same.

The difference is, for the US visa, if you do not meet the requirements you can have another person provide their financial information as a co-sponsor. For the UK, you cannot use a co-sponsor. You need to be making that £18,600 all by yourself.

That was a lot, I'm really sorry lol

OP is just asking if anyone here compared the time, cost, and other requirements before deciding to US over their foreign significant other's country.

No need for a vj timeline to explain any research that was found!

Oh yeah, it wasn't super clear what you were answering since you didn't quote any specific post. I usually assume that means someone is just replying to the very first post. My bad.

I'm pretty sure they were just talking to me and saw the flag and my timeline and may have gotten confused! I can see where the misunderstanding was made.

I'm on a cellphone so maybe that's why? I know posting on here with my phone does a lot of other weird things too.

Like if I reply multiple times in one thread sometimes it bunches them all together into one big post and removes any of the people I have quoted. Even when there are other posts in between what I have said. Weird stuff. And super annoying too!

The comparison link I posted above shows the full price for the cost of K1 visa..... Petition fee, visa application fee, and AOS.

Deciding on which country to live in is a personal choice that depends on the circumstances, I think. Which has better employment, opportunity, family, etc.

I'm not sure if that figure contains the medical fees though.

I don't see it actually broken down anywhere I just see one sum.

It would be kind of impossible to have one sum if they were including the medical since it's a completely different price and denomination depending on your embassy.

It does not include the medical, I see what it all includes now.

Still, it's an approximation, and is missing some pretty important charges that need to be considered!

For example the UK medical is £250 like I mentioned which is about $380.

The Phillippean medical is only $245 from what I am seeing on their embassy site.

I just don't think the financial information on that guide is the greatest, and I don't want to mislead anyone.
