I always forget how easy it is to get a hunting license in this state.

I can't see you running into any issues as long as you clear any federal qualifications.

You seem to have done your research so I am sure it's irrelevant, but if you haven't already you might want to check any state specific laws, but I am pretty sure they are much more lenient here, especially in recent years..

I live in the most restrictive state (MA) - toughest laws on gun licenses, but if it worked for you in WI, it might be worthwhile to take a look at the laws here. Hubby loooooves hunting and misses it dearly. I did not know you could get a hunting license easily - will check the MA laws.

I agree that you need to check the state specific laws, if you have not done so. Here in OK, I am not allowed to have a CCW as a permanent resident.

I have no idea about the laws, but unless I am 100% certain about the legal issues, I would always go with the conservative decision and NOT do something that might get you into trouble. In other words, since there seems to be uncertainty, do not get a gun, unless new information appears that completely clarifies the entire issue.

WI there is no restriction on ownership.

For concealed carry you must be a resident of the state for a permit to be issued.

There's no uncertainty. I am exempt as I have a valid hunting license. The ATF and FBI are very clear: if I am a non-immigrant alien (such as a K1 entry prior to AOS), then I am not prohibited from buying or owning a firearm if I have a valid hunting licence.

I don't know why that's ambiguous.

I found the Hunting License more challenging than the Concealed Carry, maybe my State.

You're not in Australia anymore man, I wouldn't stress about the gun laws. As long as you aren't a criminal you can have a gun. It doesn't matter if you ask your significant other to buy you one for a present or not. Unfortunately the gun stores may not know this odd area you may fall into with out a green card to purchase a gun. If you want an assault rifle you could always purchase an 80%, finish the gun yourself and then you have a gun with no serial number to be tracked. That's what people in CA and NY do to get around the new assault gun laws. Wisconsin is one of the top guns per person state in the country, you will fit in just fine there. Well since you are asking for advice ~

~the background check is going to take a while so go early. You may or may not be approved the same day. It can go anywhere from 45 mins to an hour to 3 days. So you may not be leaving the store with your purchase.

~you are correct about the hunting license aspect of it. With that said its not a guarentee that a particular store will sell you anything. There are tons of threads online about immigrants being denied purchase (gc or not ) simply because gun stores invoke their right to 'refuse service'

Yes thats right certain stores refuse service to immigrants.Its perfectly legal for them to do so. Hopefully you dont go to one of them.

Make sure you check into a Non-Resident Florida permit. As a permanent resident you will be able to get a Florida Non Resident Permit and possibly carry in OK.

Never know might be worth investigating.

Actually we use something called a "bullet button" which fixes the magazine in place so its not detachable. The 80% lower...when completed and installed would still be illegal without a bullet button or a special stock.

Hi everyone!

At the last minute my SO stepped in and did the purchase for me.

The guys are Cabelas knew what was going on but didn't mind - she gifted it to me which is completely legal.

In all it took 20 minutes and I zeroed in the rifle yesterday in time for hunting tomorrow.
