Hello everyone! I read on another website that one should wait for at least a week or two after entering into the United States and before applying for a SSN as the Social Security Office needs sometime for my information to appear in their systems.I don't know exactly what information or data entry is this which is entered by the immigration officers into the system. Please help!I will enter the US in the first week of December.

They usually use the SAVE database: http://www.uscis.gov/save/save-case-check

You can check to see if you're in the database yet by entering your I-94 number which you can obtain by going here: https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/consent.html

My fiancee arrived last month on a Friday afternoon, the very next Thursday we went to the Social Security Office and were able to apply for it. The card arrived on Monday the following week, it was very quick. Like others here said, check out your I-94, if it's there, print it out and you should be good to go.

I arrived on Monday and was able to pull up and print my I-94 the next day! Went into the SS office this morning and submitted everything with no problem! I believe that waiting period only applied previous to the I-94 becoming electronic.

Thanks a lot.As a matter of fact I have the printout of my I-94 which was given to me by the CBP officer. As suggested above by fellow member that they use the SAVE DATABASE,when I entered my I94 number into that database my details are not in there. So should I go ahead and apply for the SSN or wait until my details appear on the SAVE DATABASE.I cannot afford to wait for long time if the SSN makes a manual inquiry because it takes very long time.

Hi! Thanks a lot for the information.I have the printout of my I-94 but when i checked it on the SAVE DATABASE,it does not give any results. So should I wait for my information to appear in the SAVE DATABASE or go ahead with applying? As you know if the SSN initiates a manual inquiry I will have to wait for long time for my SSN to arrive.I need my SSN to apply for the marriage licence asap.

i say go back to ssa office,

and ask for save database lookup, both by name and by A#.

it's quite possible there's some error, and the ssa clerk can tell you - might be a typo on the name, or the A# -

but if the clerk finds an error, it needs to be corrected, and the ssa clerk cannot correct it.

How to make a correction?

WALK INTO the nearest deferred inspection office of the CBP. Get the shift supervisor. Give over yer passport, ask for a lookup, and ask em what the problem is. The shift supervisor has the power to correct it in real time. SAVE db is not updated in real time, though, so after this visit, wait a week, then go back to the SSA office and try it again.

Go Get Em, and Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Hi Darnell! First of all thanks a lot for stopping by and helping me.Actually I never went to the SSN office,I just checked my details on the SAVE DATABASE website.I entered into the US on 7th December on K1 Visa.I read on ***removed*** website that one should wait for at least two weeks after entering the USA,before applying for a SSN.They said that it takes time for the information to appear in the SAVE DATABASE and if you don't wait and the SSN people cannot pull up your information from the SAVE DATABASE then they make a manual inquiry which takes 4-12 weeks.SO should I wait for few more days or visit the SSN Office tomorrow?
