Extremely rude and confrontational officer during naturalization interview

The interview was here in the US, not in Jordan, since it was for citizenship.

The interview was in Columbus, Ohio.

Hypnos, as I stated when I wrote the initial post, it is hard to write it out in a way that describes the rudeness. Please don't minimize the experience. We know what to expect from immigration by now and in fact were given a "mini Stokes" interview (separated for the interview but only lasted about 15 minutes each) at AOS. Still, the officer in that situation was polite and respectful. She wasn't all sunshine and roses and I wouldn't even classify her as friendly, but she did her job with professionalism. While not given an approval on the spot, we received a text message later that day notifying us of the approval.

I understand you because I had a very bad experience at San Jose office when we were interviewed for our AOS process. Even with all the proof of a legitimate marriage we had at the time, including photos, air trips, taxes filled togheter, joint accounts, the officer wanted me to visit a doctor AND take all my vaccines AGAIN! When my husband told him about a law that states that a person cannot be examined again if a year hasn't passed since the first examination and showed him the paper with the law, he told my husband "I know about the laws" and left the room with the excuse of getting a form. When he returned, he told us to only send a TB test. All in a very rude manner, like he was superior than us. IF we have not had the paper showing the law with us, I would have to take all the vaccines again. They are rude and they think they know everything! I'm so sorry for your bad experience, but happy that you were approved at the end.

MyMarraigejourney..I am truly sorry for your experience. One thing I know though is that even if the IO is a jerk, it does not mean they will not approve. There are those that just want to be jerks but I can bet he will be approved in a couple of weeks. Seen this before. In one case, the officer said she had denied a case but approval letter turned up three weeks later. Even in a rare case of denials they have to be reviewed and chances are the IO does not want a flimsy excuse for a denial. Take heart. He will be okay

True enough.

He's here. We're together. Maybe I shouldn't complain. It's just difficult to be at the mercy of another human. But, immigration is a privilege and not a right, so we just have to suck it up. It's just really unfortunate that a large majority of immigration officers are on major power trips and seem to enjoy treating immigrants like animals.

Ha, congratulations. Kinda renders moot what I was in the middle of typing, but eh...

I didn't mean to make light of your interview experience. I'm afraid I am overly reliant on humour following a difficult period in my life; it's been one of the only ways I've found to not want to jump off a building.

Be thankful (as I am) that you're not a petty functionary that's paid to upset people; or worse, that you voluntarily choose to add that on yourself. You want to "stick it" to USCIS? Go out with your husband and get a coffee or have a nice meal together, and find something to laugh about. Be kind to people with no expectation of receiving anything in return. And now you get to be thankful that you won't ever have to deal with USCIS again after the oath ceremony.

Hypnos, we either have to see Constitution abolished and Cast system created (like in late Vedic period of India), so we can be told we are untouchable members of Shurdra cast, or else we have to keep bringing this up and demanding that our rights be respected like everyone elses'.

I will never accept that I HAVE TO PAY price for someone who does some wrong somewhere, BECAUSE I am an immigrant born in the same country or region some violent criminal was born in.

United States born US Citizens commit great number of violent crimes, every day you read in newspapers about shootings and killings, in schools, streets, hospitals, roads. Very few of them are actually immigrants. Do we then go and profile EVERYONE born in US for that? Do we hold background checks of gun buyers for 7 years?

No, we don't. Look how apprehensive politicians are to even bring the subject before elections,because no one wants to lose a sweet $100K+ paying seat with free cadillac plan healthcase and prestige of holding a public office.

In those cases they go directly after criminals, not after some poor Joe Six packs who drives a truck for a living, or John Doe who does 9 to 5 job. They don't go after homeless people either.

So, why is it OK to jerk our chains and play these BDSM games with us, one particular category among population which me and you fall into, the immigrants? And among immigrants, it is further divided into where you were born. So, I get more of chain yanking that you ever will.

The OP here didn't see any of it, that's why I replied to her only once and mostly ignored her post. IO being rude is not the end of story. IO could have been extra polite (like mine on I-485 interview was) and then just never rule on her husbands case. That would be a lot worse. The IO she encountered may not even be a bad person, may be just someone with bad temper but certainly not a bad person, because he did not cause them any undue hardship, but had the decision made within a day. I had to do two INFOPASSes and two Congressional inquiries after my I-485 to finally get an approval.

Here is what I propose: let's stop these games, let's just create a Cast system and then assign everyone their own regulated Cast ID. Then I will decide if it's worth staying here, or may be better to move elsewhere. But you tell me on one hand that we have Constitution and that all men are born equal and have certain inalienable rights, and then you turn around and do opposite of what you tell me. What I am supposed to make of that?
