NVC Interview - Marriage Certificates

Hey everyone, this is my first post to the forum - I couldn't find what I needed so not sure if this has been posted before?!

I am the beneficiary living in the UK.. We have received our receipt of application, and I am gathering relevant documents for the interview well in advance as to not encounter any obstacles in the process.

I have read that for the interview, I will need to bring copies of my fiancés previous marriage certificates. He has been married twice before and we only have the divorce decrees.

If we don't have the marriage certs, will it prevent us from being approved for the VISA?

Any help appreciated!

Hi and welcome to VJ!

As long as you have the full divorce decrees you will be fine :thumbs:

Someone more familiar with the London embassy will be able to advise as to whether you need to take originals to the interview. I had to in Frankfurt.

11.26.14 - Filed I-130 at US Consulate, Frankfurt (DCF)

11.18.14 - Returned to Scotland to renew our vows for our first wedding anniversary

01.08.15 - NOA2 received in snail mail, together with case number and Packet 3 instructions

02.15.15 - Submitted Packet 3

02.17.15 - Packet 4 received by email with instructions to schedule medical and interview

02.18.15 - Email authorisation received from Consulate to gain access to appointment calendar

03.03.15 - Medical

03.18.15 - Interview - Approved

03.21.15 - Visa in hand

06.10.15 - POE Chicago (final destination Detroit)

07.20.15 - Received SSN in mail

07.27.15 - Received 2 year green card in mail

The journey to ROC starts here...!

10.05.15 - Returned to Germany on government orders

05.25.17 - Mailed ROC package to California Service Centre

06.14.17 - Received NOA 1 (dated 05.30.17) in mail

09.05.18 - Received a second NOA (dated 08.11.18) in mail granting a further six months extension to green card due to 'processing delays'

11.26.18 - ROC - Approved

12.05.18 - Approval Notice I-797 received in mail

12.18.18 - 10 year green card received in mail

Ha true story! Both me and my hubby were divorced before we got married and, like you, contacting his ex for a marriage cert was not an option! Also, I had to send my original first marriage cert in with the papers for my UK divorce so I didn't have mine either! Do double check about whether you need the originals for interview though.

We only have copies of the decrees and they're not certified so I will definitely need to look into this....!

I need as much info as I can get !! I have been looking at the instructions/checklists from the London Embassy site, and I did see about the police certs... I thought I had to get enough documents as it is when I was filing the I-129F and then this !

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

At a London interview, you will not need anything from the U.S. fiance except his affidavit of support and proof of income. If you (the interviewee) are divorced, you will need your divorce decree at the interview, but not his.

So glad you pointed that out as I was about too. You wont need the U.S fiancé's divorce certificates only your own if you have one.

I did say at a London interview. Each consulate has ther own typical procedures for the fiance visa.
