Hi again!

Just wondering if someone can tell me what to expect at the port of entry when I arrive in the US on Monday. I am assuming that something will happen besides them looking at my visa in my passport since I was told to take tons of paperwork in an envelope with me .... along with my X-Ray. So, can someone ease my mind - Please??? LOL

TTYL! Thanks!

Sandra

Our experience was really no big deal. We came into JFK together (my SO, his son, and I).

We gave the envelopes (K1 & K2) to the IO, who was really nice. My hubby (then fiance) and son had to do a little biometrics thing... I think it was a retinal scan, fingerprint and/or photo, but we were so exhausted and it was over a year ago... I really don't remember exactly. Nobody asked for the xray. After that IO did his thing, we and our paperwork were sent to another room where another person reviewed everything, stamped some stuff, and I think put the !-94's in the passports. Then they gave us back the passports and we left to go to baggage claim.

I wouldn't sweat it! :star:

Many thanks to the Visajourney community for all the help!

My port of entry was Atlanta. First it was really confusing because you really do not know where to go (in addition to that I am absent minded cause I missed my family) Anyway. I went thru immigration, show them the envelope and the passport, as well as form I-94 (that you fill out on plan). The officer at the immigration just wanted the passport and the I-94.

Next step was picking up my luggage and went thru the line for custom. I was told to go to another line (which I guess is for all the people that needs a visa to enter the states). I gave the officer the envelop and my passport. I was told to have a seat until I got called. When I got called the officer just returned my passport and told me that I was good to go. So I went on, dropped of my luugage and went to the next gate.

Nobody asked me about my x-ray, but for sure you need to carry that in your hand luggage since in some cases I heard that they asked to see that.

Compared to entering as a tourist, POE experience for a K-1 holder is pretty painless. They greeted me with "Awwww... you are getting married! When is the big day?" ;) Anyway, expect to be sent to secondary. They will take away your Mysterious Brown Envelope, but almost certainly won't ask for the x-ray. You may also get a friendly lecture about what you are supposed to do now (get married, apply for AP, EAD, AOS...). Overall, not a big deal.

And what exactly can a CBP officer do with the x-ray since he/she is not a radiologist and therefore has no idea what he/she is looking at or looking for? Nothing...

YMMV

True. But if (s)he is pissed off and looking for problems, then there is a lot (s)he can do with someone who forgot to take the x-ray.

You must really be excited. I'm excited for you. I wish I could contribute to this thread but not yet, we are hoping around June. The whole x-ray deal always confused me. But oh well, we will do what we are told...

This area is a review section on all the POE's so you get an idea of what to expect POE

They generally just make you wait a little while they process it, take figner prints and take photos.

I didn't take my x-ray in hand luggage, serves them no purpose, the result of the x-ray is in your envelope.

Personally I believe anyone who says a CBP officer requested to see the x-ray is perpetuating an urban legend. YMMV

Yep, tb must be the reason.

Now, should one take his/her x-ray with him/her? My answer is YES. True, I have never heard of anyone being asked for it. But it's light, it does not take much space and the law says you are supposed to have it with you. Why take a risk?

Not to continue to be a naysayer but can you cite an authoritative source?

The consular officer who interviewed me.

Now I understand... I believe you were subjected to mis-information but of course solely my opinion.

Well, I have been wrong before, I may be wrong again. Can you cite an authoritative source?
