Started with the pledge, followed by civics questions. Then while she went through my application, asked me my general info n my wife's name n dob

Had to wait around two hours after the interview to pick up the oath notice or they would've sent me in mail but I didn't wanted to wait longer.

Thank you! :)

Hello,

My wife had her interview on Feb 3rd at 8:10am. We reached there around 7:40am. We went through the security and to check in line. Got our number and took a seat. We waited around half hour before wife was called in. It seems like it took her forever to come out but it was about 20 minutes or so. Before seated, she was asked to take an oath, went through her N-400 and so on. She passed her Civics and English test with ease. At the end the lady said, we will let you know if we need anything more otherwise you will receive a letter in the mail to attend the oath. Later in the evening, wife gave me the letter which was handed to her by the officer, which has an x on

A decision cannot yet be made about your application. We have no clue why, except, when asked if she(my wife) had any proof at the time to show we are together, she said no didn't. Now waiting to see what we get in the mail (if anything at all ) soon.

The tests are only part of the interview; the remaining part involves verifying that the applicant is eligible for naturalization. If your wife is applying based on marriage to a US citizen, then they would have need to verify to their satisfaction that the two of you are still living together. Since they couldn't verify this at the interview, they will need to review your file for any evidence you sent in with your application (sometimes they don't review the full file before the interview) or they will send you a Request for Evidence. In some rare cases, two that I have read about here on VJ, they will contact the spouse by phone or in person to verify eligibility.

There's no need to worry; they just need the verify that your wife is indeed allowed to file under the 3 year rule.

For a review of each step of my N-400 naturalization process, from application to oath ceremony, please click here.

I am waiting for the Dallas Field office to catch up. they are just now processing June 2015 filers. I have seen a lot of the comments and descriptions from the interviews, and is greatly appreciated it, but I have a couple of questions:

1. Are we supposed to attend these alone or with our husbands/wives?

2. What documentation should we take to the interview (in addition to a copy of our filing papers?

thanks!

Just an update for others:

Filed mid-October in Norfolk, VA through Lewisville lockbox. Fingerprints done mid-November. I had my interview on Tuesday and it went well.

I arrived at 9am for a 9:30 interview, had a pleasant chat with the secretary and the security downstairs, then waited for my turn. An officer I haven't seen before called my name and we went in. Previous 2 times I spoke to the same lady, I was a bit sad I didn't her again.

I gave an oath to tell the truth, then we sat down and id ,y test: one sentense to read, one to write, then 10 questions. I stumbled on a first name of our governor, but remembered it as soon as the officer asked the next question. I passed and we moved on to the application.

Th officer confirmed every single question, even looked into my eyes to verify color! He asked about my first marriage and what happened, since I filed removal of conditian through a waiver. I explained and he was satisfied. Then he asked about my second marriage in detail, about my trips (we had to add 2 more between the date I filed and the interview). I had total 16 short trips, so he corrected it on my application. He asked why I travel so much and was satisfied with all my answers (first few years I only went home, then I started going around the world to meet with my present husband who lives in my homecountry). I told him about one extra trip, but forgot the dates and we looked in my passport. That's when he found another stamp from the trip over the holiday, and I completely forgot about it! I guess it was enough to prove how much I travel :))

Then the officer asked me all these "are you a terrorist?" questions. I had a 20 year old court document and a fine I paid for it which I forgot to mention for my green cards applications because... well, I forgot about it O_o. He glanced at the translations and asked a couple questions, then moved on. We talked about my marriage and taxes. I also just got a tax for I never received before, and I already filed for 2015, so when he asked if I have any unpaid taxes I pulled out 5 years of returns and this new for I got a day before the interview. I told him, I have no idea what it is, and I may have to ammend my 2014 or 2015 return, but I paid everything before. The officer laughed and seemed to convinced I am trying my best to be honest here.

Finally, he said he needs to read my case in detail and he'll let me know within a week if he needs anything else. If I don't hear from him in this timeframe, next letter I'll get will be for my oath ceremony. Right before leaving I asked if I could speak to the officer who intervied me before to thank her for encouragement, but he couldn't find here at the time :(

Today at 5pm I got a text that I am in line for the oath! The officer did mention that typical time to be scheduled in our area is 2-3 months, so I am looking at April, we'll see. I am doing a name change, that's done twice a month in court. Timelines here show the oath within a month from the interview date... I hope it happens fast!

Overal I had a pleasant time in Norfolk every time I went there.

Good luck everyone!

1. I mostly see couples together if it's a marriage based process. I would advise to go together, and if your spouse can't attend, have a proof of a good reason, like a doctor's note or copies of their tickets for work-related travel and a letter from work or proof of family emergency (letters, doctor's notes, etc) and so on. Basically, if they can't attend, there better be a really good reason. The same reason you would use if you had to reschedule your interview.

2. When they send you a letter for the interview, they include a document checklist. Refer to it, see what applies to your case. If you are married to US citzen, bring more proofs of marriage - new bills, new letters addresed to both, new joint property, joint tax return for 2015 (you are required to bring tax returns for the past 3 to 5 years anyway), maybe vacation related stuff under both names, recent photos... you get the idea.

If you want a new picture on your naturalization certificate, other than the one you mailed first, bring it with you.

Basically, bring an update to your application if it's marriage based, have originals of whatever copies you mailed and bring tax returns for the past 5 years (or as many of these as you have).

don't forget your green card, all passports you used to travel to the US and a state id.

May 2016: DS-260 interview - AP for "dangerous" work field

July 2016: visa issued! 59 days in AP.

May 2018: filed I-751

June 2018: 18 months extension received

I traveled all over the world in the meantime, no problems with visas and entries, occasionally some explaining and more documents to haul around.

2. What documentation should we take to the interview (in addition to a copy of our filing papers?

thanks!

The interview is for you alone. If your spouse goes with you, in 99 out of 100 times, he/she will just have to wait in the waiting room until you're done.
