Hi,

I'll have my interview on Oct 8, 2015 and am concerned about one thing. My daughter's passport was issued when she was 6 months old and now she's 6 years old and the passport is valid till 2017. The issue is her photo on the passport is when she was 6 months, will that be a problem because she's 6 years old now and her face changed since then?

And what could happen in the interview? what options do I have?

Thanks,

A new passport is an option but not necessary. FYI when we got our immigrant visas my youngest daughter was nearly 5 and her passport photo was taken at 11 months. I promise you she had changed since then ;) And had similar with non-immigrant visas for both children at various stages. It really isn't an issue.

It's not necessary but if it expires in 2017 I could be a good thing to do anyway. Renewing your passport while in the US can be a pain in the butt

Why could that be a problem? If i managed to renew the passport from my home country, what will be the problem in transferring the green card to the new passport?

Regards

It's often a hassle to renew from the U.S. because it has to be done via an embassy or consulate - usually much easier to do from your home country, I think that's what Alaska meant. Nothing to do with the green card (though the green card is not "in" a passport by the way, it's a separate card entirely). It's only your initial immigrant visa that gets put in the passport.

Yeah it's just a hassle. Unless you live close by the embassy. Or a consulate that can do it. In my case for ex the consulate in town will not renew passports I have to fly to San Fran. It's usually just an easier process in the home country

It's generally more expensive when you do it from overseas, too.

When I renewed my British passport it cost close to twice what it would have cost if I were in the UK; it's practically daylight robbery.

Yes, it is generally more expensive to do it from an embassy. But it can also be a pain to do it in your home country. I went to get a new passport yesterday and as I am registered as having left the country I had to fill in a form to prove I'm still a Swedish citizen. Normally the process of getting a new passport takes minutes. Mine took 2 hours including wait time at the police station and the office were I needed to get our version of a birth certificate with my new and maiden name. So yeah I think it will be messy however you choose to do it. Would probably be easier to not do it, should be fine. Since the passport is still valid I don't think they can really say anything about it. It's not like they're going to tell an adult person to get a new passport just because their appearance changed :)

But they haven't left their home country yet! So the hassle of proving they are still citizens isn't an issue yet

And they're not Swedish, so who knows if they even have to do that... For my country you don't need to go through all that hassle applying at home. You don't need to "register to leave the country ", I'm kind of surprised Sweden even does that, sounds like an old soviet bloc type practice!!!!
