We just got to the NVC stage and it says that our visa class is CR1 currently which is what its supposed to be. But at some point during the NVC processs and before the visa interview, our 2 years marriage anniversary will be up. I am curious if the visa class showing at CEAC website will update itself from CR1 to IR1 or do I have to call NVC or something like that?

I really wanna get it upgraded to IR1 during the NVC stage rather than letting it stay at CR1 and then try upgrading it to IR1 at POE because I have read so many instances where the CBP officer at POE says it has been upgraded to CR1 but the person ends up getting the conditional green card with 2 years of validity on it in the mail.

Thanks

It stays CR1. They will input in the computer at POE. It doesn't matter during interview process if its CR1 or IR1. Just be sure to let CO know at Interview and have marriage certificate at POE to show the CBP and alert them so they check the right category.

No offense, but your response isn't helpful and doesn't address the question I asked in my original post, which is, will the visa class update itself automatically from CR1 to IR1. Thanks

Yes I did I said it stays CR1. They do not change that you stay the category you started with throughout the process. (No offense taken sorry wasn't clearer to you).

No offense, but the lack of updates to your TImeline isn't helpful. It's doubtful you would have completed two years of marriage by the time interview is scheduled.

Unless you intend to stretch out the process at NVC.

Actually, mine has changed from CR-1 to IR-1 in the Nvc stage.

That is good news. Did it change by itself or you had to call NVC or something like it? Did it change around the time of your 2 years wedding anniversary?

So even though CEAC says CR-1 all along, the visa stamped onto my passport would say IR-1. Is that what you meant?

received an email that my visa category was upgraded from f2a to IR1 Sept 3, 2015. At first they sent an email that my visa cat was changed to CR1, then got another email stating " RECALL" then finally received an email that it was changed to IR1. They changed it same day. Called NVC and an agent told me to disregard the first email stating its was upgraded to CR1 because my visa cat. was upgraded to IR1. I've been married for 1 yr. I thought its still going to be on CR1 Category but Im glad its on IR =D

Don't put a lot of credence to category changes. Embassy issues visas based on marriage date. If married under two years, a CR-1 is issued.

Thanks!! I was about to call them again to confirm but they're close.. Now, I know.. I was thinking of CR1 but agent told me IR.. oh well, agents at nvc are unreliable at times anyway..?

I can't recall when it changed. I just noticed that the email correspondence sent to me by nvc state that it is already IR-1 unlike before.
