And, where's the evidence saying Norton is bloatware? I write software for a living, and I never heard of such things.

Have you ever used the Symantec Anti-Virus Console to manage clients? I have (v 10.0) and it sucked so bad we stopped using it and installed clients as unmanaged.

Here's a pretty unfavorable article on Symantec software in general

Once your existing anti virus expires, or just prior, uninstall it. Windows will advise that you are unprotected which will generate an option to fix it. You will then get choices of 5-6 different free programs, ranging from 3 months to 1 year.

Why pay if you don't have to?

A common response. Wrong but common. I hate AOL's (as in AOL the ISP) internet software but the simple fact is Active Virus Shield uses the best scan engine (Kaspersky's) and it's free. If you want the best and hate AOL then pay for Kaspersky for the full featured version. Me, I'll just stick with Linux. :D

We run SAV 10 CE at work on all of our Windows clients. In fact, we just re-upped our contract so we've got 10.1.5 / 10.2 (Vista compatible) now. I *hate* the Symantec Management Console but I'll say SAV Corporate Edition has done well for us. It doesn't get all the credit though - we also dump our mail through Spam Assassin & ClamAV pre-Exchange and have TrendMicro ScanMail on the server itself. So far so good. And yes, I know I just jinxed it. ;)

Robor,

Talk all of the corporate IT ####### that you want, at the end of the day, it is not applicable to the average VJ member.

Free Anti-virus programs work for the home user. In my 14 years of free virus software, I have never seen a virus on any of my machines. Period.

you've not been hitting the right porn/hacker sites then

to date i've had about 3 trojans and 5 viruses. and numerous hack attempts. my thoughts are - with antivirus and anti-spyware, one gets what they pay for.........

Sorry, I misunderstood. I have been paying too much attentiion to my wife, which is very good. This is why I intend to quit VJ.

Best of luck mate! My end here is very close.
