I am extremely happy to announce that my NOA2 got approved in 13 days from my NOA1! (NOA1: August 7, NOA2: August 20)

I'm mindblow, I was expecting California service center to approve it sometime in the fall!

I was curious, how long did your case take to get to the NVC? (I know it's somewhere between 2-8 weeks)

How long before they give you a case number?

How long does it usually take to get to the consulate?

After it gets to the consulate, how long before they email the forgein fiance the packet?

And lastly, how do you pay for the visa interview? Beforehand, online? Or at the consulate?

I was hoping to get my fiancé here to Chicago by Halloween but two months isn't realistic.

I have high hopes he will get here by nee years :)

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

My NOA2 also came quickly. It was approved on the 21 of July and the NVC sent me a letter saying they had forwarded my case to the consulate on 17 Aug. A case number was also assigned for me in this letter. I'm not sure when it actually reached the NVC as I had been calling every day for the first two weeks and then you were no longer able to call until you actually had notice from NVC (they also would tell you not to call back until 35 days has passed). I know that doesn't answer all your questions but hopefully that helps some!

it's hard to say, just like for NOA2. some gets case # in a few days to 2 weeks, some gets even after 35 days. The current trend seems like, at least many of applicants I noticed around my NOA2 date, are having almost full 35 days. I still haven't received mine yet, but I should be able to get case # by this weekend, hopefully.

My NOA2 came only 13 days after my NOA1, I am really hoping it will keep moving along! VJ sure is a big help, I would have missed lots of details on my application without the help of the forum.

For our case:

NOA2 on August 17

Sent to NVC on August 24

NVC Received on August 31

Case number assigned on September 1

Case left NVC on September 3.

So for us, 17 days total to go from NOA2 to being sent to the Embassy. Super fast for us.

Naturalization Timeline

Now that I have officially received a letter from the consulate, here's my updated timeline (just over a month from NOA2 to Consulate):

NOA2 July 21

NVC Rec Aug 13

NVC Left Aug 17

Consulate Rec Aug 25 (or potentially earlier as I never called the consulate and just waited for the letter to arrive, while I collected packet 3).
