Did you use the long form 1040 in 2014? If so, use line 22, total income. That is your salary, plus other income like interest income.

Your accountant did the right thing by finding you 16k of deductions, so your taxable income is only 5k. But that is NOT your gross income.

Thank for for updating your timeline. (My Assistant, then edit/add my timeline.)

She did what SHE thought was right for her. Maybe this next year she will file using turbo tax which is a good suggestion. Used it myself for filing returns for my family for the past 15 years. I swear by it. In her case, let's cut her some slack.

Take out your tax form that you filed with the IRS. It will say 1040 on the top right or left corner. Scroll your eyes to line 22 and that is your total income to determine your comparison to the poverty level. I think that is what you are trying to determine, right?

US embassy Manila prefers that the joint sponsor for K1 is an immediate relative of the petitioner (ex: parent or sibling). They do not have to except the co-sponsor for a K1, but each case is different. We have seen approvals and we have seen rejected applications.

If the K1 visa application fails, you can take the spousal route. You would marry in the Philippines and then file for a visa In the IR1/CR1 category, the joint sponsor can be anybody (relative or friend) as long as they meet the requirements. This process the CO must take the sponsor.

The co-sponsors income must meet the same 125% poverty guidelines as the sponsor.
