Hey guys!

I was looking at my timeline today and noticed that Gary's EAD notice should be coming soon (thank god. It's been tough on just my income the last 10 months). I put the receipt number I got into the case status search on the USCIS website, and it said to check my NOA1 for my next steps. I just realized, I don't have that. I have the texts/emails with the numbers, he has already done his biometrics appointment, and we have already returned an RFE for my father's (joint sponsor's) birth certificate.

Do I need to see the NOA1? What 'next steps' could they mean?

Thanks guys! :)

So you have never received NOA1 paper document by mail? I don't think NOA1 matters much. But what I would worry is if you can receive other mails from USCIS later since you didn't receive NOA1. If I were you, I would double check the mail address, if any issues, I would update the right address on USCIS website.

Next step, EAD and AP approved. Then they will mail the documents to the address you provide. Again, are you sure your mail address is correct?

After that, then you either receive an interview appointment letter to tell you when and where to attend AOS interview, or interview waiver letter.

P.S. I just realise your fiancee already done Biometrics , then you must have received at least a letter about Biometrices appointment letter, then your address might be right. lol anyways, double check the address just for in case.:)

I never received mine when I did AOS either. It's unfortunate, but sometimes it just happens. As long as you are getting other mail from them don't worry, as it's the least important paperwork.

There's that smell again...

A returned receipt as undelivered is not ideal.

Well, that is of course the very worst scenario it could be. OP has his/her advice one way or t'other, regardless.

We sent out papers on June 8th. Check cashed the 10th, e-notification on the 15th.

As of today, it's been a while I highly recommend you call USCIS or even make an InfoPass to check the what's the next step meant by USCIS. Normally you should get both NOA1 and Bio mails, but in some cases USPS snail mail screwed. I don't have NOA1 as well, only Bio mail.

Call them ASAP or make an InfoPass, do not make the delay or no response on your side, they might terminate your application due to no future response from applicants.

Good luck!

They won't terminate their application because they did not receive the hard copy notice of their filing receipt. Why would you state that?

The receipt notice is just that. It shows you filed and that they received the application. The OP received e-notification of the receipt of their form and already received their bio letter and completed them. The next steps are to wait for them to receive the RFE they returned and for their EAD/AP to be approved and sent out to them. After that, they wait for interview letter or interview waiver notice then green card approval, if they do not receive anymore RFEs.

OP> the only reason you may need to have a copy of the receipt notice is if your case is pending for a long time and you would need to file for EAD/AP renewal, though you might be able to get by with printing out the e-notification of the USCIS receiving your I-485 for that.

You can take a look at my timeline--I didn't get my EAD even thought it's been around 80ish days. So I submit an enquiry https://egov.uscis.gov/e-Request/Intro.doand got an email reply two days after (that was quicker than I expected). Stated my EAD is approved...on the day after I emailed them, and card will be mailed to me. Feels like they had 'forgotten' my application until I reminded them. Sometimes they need a little push.
