Two people were shot as protests turned violent in Ferguson late Sunday night, St. Louis County Police said.

The shootings happened near the intersection of West Florissant Avenue and Ferguson Avenue as tensions between protesters and police escalated. The condition of the two people shot was not immediately released.
The St. Louis County Police Department also confirmed that one of their officers was involved in an officer-involved shooting after coming under heavy gunfire. They say during the gunfire at least two unmarked cars were hit by bullets. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that a female officer was in the vehicle when shots were fired at the car. She then returned fire. Her condition is unknown.
Earlier in the evening two businesses were broken into. Bowen’s Beauty Supply Store on West Florissant was vandalized around 8:30 p.m. Police believe the person stole a cash register but then dropped the register outside a nearby store and fled.
Someone later threw a glass bottle towards officers. Police with riot gear then arrived.
Shots fired at protest marking anniversary of Brown's death

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) - The anniversary of 18-year-old Michael Brown's death in Ferguson, Missouri, began with a solemn march in his honor and ended with a protest that grew increasingly confrontational before it was interrupted by gunfire.
Shots rang out around 11:15 p.m. Sunday as several hundred people gathered on West Florissant Avenue, the area hit by rioting and looting last year after Brown's killing by a Ferguson police officer. The sound sent demonstrators running for cover.
St. Louis County Police spokesman Shawn McGuire said in an emailed statement that an officer who came under "heavy gunfire" had been involved in a shooting.
Police didn't immediately say whether there were any injuries, but minutes after the shots were heard, an Associated Press photographer saw a man lying face down, covered in blood, behind a boarded-up restaurant. It wasn't immediately clear how badly the man was hurt.
Later, an AP reporter saw a woman overcome with grief. Friends were consoling her. She screamed: "Why did they do it?" Another woman nearby fainted.
A man nearby said, "They killed my brother."
The police department tweeted that at least two unmarked cars were hit by gunfire. A spokesman didn't immediately respond to questions about the shooting. McGuire's statement said the department was "working as quickly as possible to get details of the incident."
Several events earlier Sunday marked the anniversary of the killing, which cast greater scrutiny on how police interact with black communities. Brown's father, Michael Brown Sr., led a march through town after a crowd of hundreds observed 4½ minutes of silence.
The group began their silence at 12:02 p.m., the time Brown was killed, for a length of time that symbolized the 4½ hours that his body lay in the street after he was killed. Two doves were released at the end.
The elder Brown then held hands with others to lead the march, which started at the site where his son, who was black and unarmed, was fatally shot by Ferguson officer Darren Wilson on Aug. 9, 2014. A grand jury and the U.S. Department of Justice declined to prosecute Wilson, who resigned in November, but the shooting touched off a national "Black Lives Matter" movement....
The shame is no one will be surprised by this.

Friend of Michael Brown shot by police in Ferguson after he used a stolen handgun to fire on officers during a protest to mark the one-year anniversary of the 18-year-old's controversial death

A friend of Michael Brown is in a 'critical, unstable condition' after being shot by police when he used a stolen handgun to fire on officers during a protest to mark the one-year anniversary of the 18-year-old's controversial death.

St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said that plainclothes officers were tracking the man at around 11:15 pm, while several hundred people gathered on West Florissant Street to take part in the demonstration.

He added that the man approached the officers, who were in an unmarked police car and opened fire. The officers returned fire from inside the vehicle. They then pursued the man on foot. The chief said the man again fired on the officers and all four fired back.

The suspect has been identified as 18-year-old Tyrone Harris Junior by his father, who revealed that his son was a 'real close' school friend of the late Michael Brown. 'We think there's a lot more to this than what's being said,' Harris Senior was quoted as saying in local media reports.

Footage shot by protester Tony Rice, who was live-tweeting near a McDonald's under the Twitter name @search4swag, showed a black man lying face down on the floor with his hands cuffed behind his back and a large blood stain on his torso. Two police officers can be seen standing over him with their guns drawn but do not assist him.

Rice, who was arrested for filming the footage, can be heard saying to the officers repeatedly: 'Please give him some help! He's bleeding out man, please give him some help.'

Speaking at a press conference in the early hours of Monday morning, Belmar said that plainclothes officers had been tracking the man, who they believed was armed, during the protests when he spotted them and opened fire.

The officers returned fire from inside the vehicle. They then pursued the man on foot. The chief said the man once again fired on the officers, with all four continuing to fire back.

Shortly afterwards the suspect was identified as 18-year-old Tyrone Harris Junior by his father, the St Louis Post Dispatch reported.

Harris said shortly after 3 a.m. local time that his son had just left emergency surgery, adding that he'd recently graduated from Normandy High School, Missouri - the same school Michael Brown had attened,.

Describing their relationship, Mr Harris said his son and the late 18-year-old had been 'real close', adding: 'We think there's a lot more to this than what's being said.'

Tensions have been high in Ferguson following a second bout of looting.

At least 12 shots were fired and the crowd scattered and sped off in cars.

The situation began to escalate just after 10pm when a Ferguson police officer told the protesters on a megaphone: 'Remaining in the street is a violation of law. You must move onto the sidewalk or be subject to arrest'.

Police put on helmets and riot shields and formed a line. Protesters walked up and down the line saying: 'F*** you' to every officer until the shots rang out.

Paul Hampel, a reporter with the St Louis Post Dispatch, was beaten up and robbed. He had blood coming down the right side of his face and asked other journalists for a phone to call his wife.

In another looting incident, rioters smashed the glass front door of a beauty store on West Florissant Avenue and tried to get into other shops on the same strip.

A group of a dozen youths in their early 20s were seen running away as alarms rang out.

Police officers in cars and SUVs surrounded Bowen Beauty Supply, which had been smashed, as well as Ferguson Laundry, the Nail Trap nail salon, Ferguson Burger restaurant and another beauty store.

The looting took place despite the pouring rain and even though dozens of police were stationed close by.

Before the looting took place around 9pm, protesters had walked up and down West Florissant Avenue holding their arms up in the rain shouting, 'Fight back, shoot back' and 'No justice, no peace'.

A cash register was stolen from Bowen's Beauty Store and found dumped further up the street, St Louis Post Dispatch reporter Paul Hempel tweeted.

Shortly afterwards, a glass fitter measured the front door of the beauty store that had been smashed and put a board over it.

At a barbers store, the owners stood out the front in a show of force to stop others from looting.

Writing on Twitter Anthony French, a city Alderman whose ward covers Ferguson, branded the thieves as 'opportunistic criminals (who) used the cover of rain'. He called them 'pathetic and disappointing'.

On West Florissant Avenue a stand off ensued with protesters blocking traffic whilst 30 police stood by watching.

St Louis County officers wore bullet proof vests, gloves and had pepper spray and white plastic hand ties on their utility belts.

Among the officers present were Ferguson interim police chief Andre Anderson, St Louis County police chief Jon Belmar and Missouri Highway Patrol captain Ron Johnson.

I'm beginning to think the people of Ferguson don't respect ANYONE'S life, including their own.

This all boils down to the Mayor. She can't run her city

You would never see this stuff happening in a Texas City, Try that protesting/looting and breaking into business, You will be hauled off to the local morgue.........

During Sunday night’s protest on the anniversary of the shooting death of African-American man Michael Brown, Ferguson protesters chanted that they were “ready for war.”

Watch, via Twitter:

The above video was tweeted out at 10:47 PM Central Time, which means the chant occurred before protesters exchanged gunfire with police officers shortly after 11. CNN also reports that some protesters were chanting “We’re ready for what? We’re ready for war,” during the protests.

You have protesters and then you have criminals who are using the protesters to cover their devious activities. It is not the people of Ferguson, it's some of the criminals that reside in Ferguson. Every neighbor has criminals lurking around waiting for opportunities to present themselves.

The shame is no one will be surprised by this.

Well it isn't surprising. These sorts of problems don't get resolved overnight.

Happy Anniversary !

I still hold the opinion (right, with 11 pounds of used toilet paper) that Ferguson should be burned to the ground, a 'no humans' zone 1 mile around the kill-zone.

You live in Ferguson?

Because you told everyone you live in a place where there are no minorities. And yet and still you carry a gun to the shower with you. Please explain who you need a gun for?

It should. And then they should hire common sense people and provide proper resources to people so they can be educated properly.

no no - Ferguson 'as a community' should cease to exist,

with folk going elsewhere where the proper resources exist.

Similar to the Katrina Diaspora, New Orleans residents going to Dallas and Houston. [we all know how the Houston crowd worked out]
