Does the letter specifically ask you to bring only your state ID? One thing I know is USCIS asks on appointments to bring valid forms of government Identification of which a passport is one of them which I assume you have. Also did you apply for an EAD as well and if so when? If you happen to get your EAD before this new interview date make a state ID and if not go with your passport. Don't miss your interview because of an ID as a passport is still the most powerful acceptable government issued Identification and you will still be interviewed with it.

oh man, that sucks !

when you filed the big AOS set - if'n you included the I-765 form for EAD, the regular fee for the EAD card is waived,

and

usually hits the door within 90 days of filing the big AOS set. with an EAD card in hand, you could have chased after (and gotten):

1. SSN and

2. State ID card.

What to do about a state ID now? Beats me ! Hopefull someone else will chime in.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Bring your valid foreign passport; it's unlikely you'll be able to obtain anything else without an EAD, which you don't have.

is possible you mis-read that block?

usually, for ID, there's this wanky if/then/else construct. Can revisit this letter, telling us exactly what's there?

The exact wording is "You both must bring an Illinois driver's license or state identification."

That sentence is in bold. I don't have a driver's license nor a state id :-(

Thank you and to all the rest that tried to help me!!

I did bring my passport for the interview and the officer sent a letter (couple days later) asking for state id or driver's license amongst some other stuff. But she bolded the sentence with the state id in it.

"You both must bring an Illinois' driver license or State identification."

ok - you've other stuff to bring.

you won't have the state ID or drivers license. you'll have to talk to the IO about it, asking for supervisory discretion from his/her supervisor for the lack of it. I THINK it's easily granted, but ya never know with these folk.

Are you sure you can't get a state ID with the NOA1 (I-797 received notice) for the AOS ? My fiance did and we live in Illinios too.

Try several DMV in your area. We were successful at the second try at a different location/town. Print out the

The only i-797 i have is for the biometrics. Is that the one u are talking about? We've decided to make a call to USCIS later, hopefully it'll help :-/

We've decided to try calling USCIS later, if nothing helps then we'll try to apply for it i guess :-/ but i doubt it'll work as I'm already out of status.
