Thanks a lot English Muffin....but tell me, how would others who are unaware of this post find it? I just happened to stumble across it yesterday because someone had posted a reply which bumped it.

Because it's in the 'Guides' and anyone who is about to embark on a visa application really ought to read them before venturing into the forums. If you look through this post you'll see that every time it gets bumped people start asking the OP specific questions and he hasn't been on these boards for many months now.

It doesn't need to stay at the top. There are all kinds of stickied threads designed to answer the "repeat offender" questions and yet on any given day you still see the same old, tired questions. he problem is most people don't read!

If people were more proactive and used the search feature they'd quite easily find the answers to their questions. Unfortunately, most people can't be bothered to take the time to read the guides and search the forums before posting a new question that's already been asked a thousand times.

There will always be new members joining VJ. Some arn't aware of the available resources and need a bit of guidance.

The last thing people who are separated from their loved ones need (who are here for support as well as information) are people who post a million times a day making jaded remarks.

If you don't like questions from newbies, stay out of those threads.

We were all new once. When I was new, I read the information contained within this community and many others before I ever typed a single post.

There are seven blue tabs at the top of the forums. And eight sources at the bottom of the photos of the happy couples. There is also an entire forum dedicated to site discussion.

If a 'jaded remark' is what it takes to get some members to 'see' these resources, there is nothing wrong with that. No one has been rude in their explanation of why this thread was added to the Guides.

I have no problems with questions from newbies. The problem I do have is that so many people aren't willing to examine just what is available on Visa Journey before posting a question. And I really don't think that is an unreasonable expectation! I am tired of the "I want it and I want now" entitlement attitude that is so prevalent.

Like those currently separated from their loved ones, I, too, was once separated from my loved one. Like Rebecca, I read the guides and searched the forums when I had any questions. 99% of the time I found what I needed without posting an additional question.

But, the bottom line regarding this thread is that there is no need whatsoever to keep this thread floating at the top of the forum for unsuspecting newbies to pose additional questions that won't be answered by the former adjudicator who no longer visits this forum.

I have said this before, and I will say it again. Ignoring posts which bother you is as easy as not clicking... There is a way to point folks to the guides that does not need to sound condescending.

A bit of patience for folks going through what likely will be the longest, possibly most stressful process of their lives can go a long way toward making VJ a great resource for all, newbies, veterans, the clueless and the perfect...

I don't want to ignore posts from newbies who haven't bothered to read the guides or otherwise educate themselves, even though seeing them bothers me. The best way to help these people is to encourage them to read the guides and learn the process. If all they do is ask questions, they are likely to encounter a lot of disappointment later because failing to learn the process, mean you fail to ask or otherwise get answers to critical questions.

Still no reason to bump this thread.

From the first day I joined VJ; Mr. pushbrk, you have been one of my greatest advisors. I have probably asked questions that might have been found in a guide. You answered anyway (with knowledge and wisdom) and directed me to excellent resources. Your presence in guides where newbies are asking questions is invaluable. May you live long, be healthy, and always be here.

Exactly.

Not to mention the fact that a lot of the answers these people are getting are also being given by newer members who are well intentioned, but answering incorrectly because they haven't read much either.

Nobody here is perfect. But there are those of us who have stuck around and try to help. I believe it is more ill-conceived for us to be told 'don't read it if it bothers you' than for us to firmly remind readers of the resources already available to them.

Can't we all just get along?

Sometimes getting through it is more important than getting along.

After all Visa Journey has done for me I feel a little obligated to help out and stick around. Nothing wrong with sharing your knowledge and experience to help those entering the process.
