I need to move to Irvine

Hi everyone!

I'm here because I am very desperate and I need help and some advices.

My boyfriend has got a job for 2 years in Irvine and I wish to go with him. I was thinking about a student visa but studying is us in too expensive and I also need to earn money for living so I don't think a student visa would be a great idea. What do you think?

I was going to try an internship then but you have to find employers who join the j-1 visa program. I got a degree in tourism and I am about to graduate in languages and translation for international relationiship. I'm currently working in Italy as receptionist in a hotel so I guess I should look for a tourism/languages related internship. Do you know of any hotel that offer such a program in the Irvine area?

Or I would also try to work and get a visa for that. Do you know where international people can look for a job that would help them to get a visa? I could work also as waitress, I don't care about that.

So, do you have any advice?

Marriott Hotels and Resorts participate in the J-1 visa program. So do Hilton, I believe.

Normally, getting a work visa is quite difficult as you need to find a company to sponsor you and they have to meet all kinds of condition. But I was reading about an immigration reform that will allow spouses of foreign workers a temporary work permit. Maybe you can research that further or maybe someone else with more knowledge about this immigration reform will come around?!

You will not get a work visa for a waitress so I would focus on your tourism and translation background. This is going to require you doing a lot of work on your end.

Since your BF has gotten job I assume he has a work visa yes? Is marriage a possibility so you can travel on a derivative visa?

My boyfriend is a researcher so he will have a j-1 visa. Unfortunately, marriage is not an option.
