I am American. I married first Filipino wife in 2007 in USA (k1). we divorced in USA in 2012. I am currently living in Philippines and married my new wife here in Philippines. NSO gave us a marriage certificate and they saw (to get marriage license) my US divorce papers. Now...my wife is all freaked out and losing her mind thinking we may be committing bigamy. I have found little to no clarification anywhere. ANyone help us out here?

For the USC - divorced is divorced...and (for the Filipina EX) recognized by the Philippines as long as the USC petitioned the divorce. No annulment needed.

Sorry that is wrong information. There is divorce in the Philippines.

If you are a Muslim, you can take your case to a Sharia Court and have your divorce processed. See Presidential Decree No. 1083 "Code of Muslim Personal Laws of the Philippines"

A DECREE TO ORDAIN AND PROMULGATE A CODE RECOGNIZING THE SYSTEM OF FILIPINO MUSLIM LAWS, CODIFYING MUSLIM PERSONAL LAWS, AND PROVIDING FOR ITS ADMINISTRATION AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

Especially Chapter III, Sec. 1, Article 45 through 51.

nothing to worry about here. Like Hank said if you're a USC and divorced it is recognized by the Philippines. So technically you can remarry anywhere anyplace anytime but since you've already got married you can't do that for now. :)

thanks guys. I appreciate it. Yeah, my wife was sick all day and was rather upset. Again, I sponsored my fiance in 2007, filipina, we married in USA. In 2012 we divorced in USA. In 2014 I married, here in Philippines, a great girl. SHe was worried our marriage was not valid and got me all stressed out as well.

But I ad received complex answers on sites until here. It is good to know that my valid US divorce is recognized here. My new wife and I were civil married here in 2014...having a Catholic Church wedding next month here in Manila.
