Do i need a Police certificate if i live outside of my country for more than 1 year?

Hi all

My husband went to the Australia for studying about more than 1 year. He came back to Viet Nam later on. I started sending my supporting documents to NVC. After reviews, they ask me to send them his police certificate while he was in the Australia even though he was only present there under student visa.

Will this be right or wrong? since i heard that if one visited somewhere outside his or her country more than one year under visa of fiance or immigration, he or she is supposed to provide with the police certificate to prove these period of time. For my husband case, he came as student visa for school purpose only.

Anyone has any idea?

Yes, he will need to provide it. It does not matter the immigration status he had while in Australia, they want to make sure to have a thorough understanding of his "legal status".

Technically, even if he was just visiting for more than the specified amount of time he should have provided it.

How long does it take to get a Police Certificate from Australia if he is now in viet nam? If anyone knows? And how to apply it from viet nam?

Although some countries, like China, provide police certificates for most visa stays except for their L or F visas,

so there could be certain visa stays that Australia is unwilling to provide the police certificate for,

but for foreign student visa...I'm guessing that its a high probability that they will provide it.

My Chinese wife, studied in Moscow University for 5 years, and

we had to get the Russian police certificate, and it took 4 weeks.

She had to go to the Russian embassy and apply in person.

At the time when I was researching, there were some people that were

waiting for Russian police certificate for over 3 months...and that is

mainly due to the fact that they resided in several different cities,

which usually prolongs the process.

So, have him go to the closest Australian embassy/consulate and apply in person.

He will need to provide the address of where he stayed...and ideally his residence

was all in one city (area).

There is supposed to be some sort of international agreement that each

country is supposed to provide police certificates in timely manner...

something like 2 to 4 weeks...but it can take longer, so get this going ASAP.

While you are at it, see if he can actually get 2 certified copies...just in case

for future processing and as a back up...cost should be nominal.
