Anybody from Brazil with dual citizenship

MY Goddaughter was born in the US, then the family moved back to brazil when she was a baby, she's 17 now and want to come for a visit. She has a US passport when she was baby and i beleive it got renewed at the US consulate in Brazil when she was a little bit older.

The question is

When she's traveling to the US, Does she have to show them her US passport (have to check if she also has a Brazil passport) what about when she's going back to Brazil?

For US citizen we need visa to go to Brazil so I am not sure what the case would be in her situation

I'm not from Brazil but my kids are dual citzenship Canada & US. We travelled to Belgium and on our way back we were pulled aside for extra checks - we were told that it was because our kids travelled on their Canadian passport. A US citizen has to enter the US on their US passport. If not you will be flagged.

For the entering to Brazil I don't know - in Europe they really don't care which passport you use. But my guess is that she is best to travel to US on US passport and back to Brazil on Braziilian passport.

04/13/15: biomnetrics appointment letter

04/16/15: successful biometrics appointment

06/10/15: Received email - EAD picked up by post office!

06/11/15: Received EAD

06/18/15: Received interview notice in the mail for July 20th 2015 (was send on 06/12/15)

Assuming one of your goddaughter parents was a Brazilian citizen when she was born, she is Brazilian citizen. She will need a Brazilian passport to enter Brazil (actually she does not even need one, but it will make it easier). I recommend one of her parents to go to the Federal Police website (www.dpf.gov.br) and check the documents required to get a passport. It's not complicated. If they registered her US birth certificate in the Brazilian Consulate in the US everything will be easier, since she will have a birth certificate equivalent valid in Brazil. Due to the fact that she is 17, she will be required to get a state issued ID (free) to be able to apply for a passport. To apply for the ID, she and one of the parents will have to go to a state police precinct (delegacia) with the birth certificate and wait a couple weeks to get it done.

Edit: how did she enter Brazil as a baby? My son was also born in the US (both I and my wife are Brazilian Citizens) and he needed a Brazilian passport to board the plane to move back here. Also, she probably is in school and they ask for some ID, so at least she has a valid birth certificate.

I think you are getting seriously confused.

All Passports show place of birth. Place of birth does not equate to nationality.

Even in the US there are limited circumstances where someone born here is not a citizen.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
