Hello everyone,

I am a 23 year old Bahraini Female. My boyfriend is a US citizen in California under the military. We have decided to get married.

I am very concerned about the procedure for the K1 Visa application as it seems to be complicated and lengthy.

Can anyone with experience please share their journey with me?

Is it difficult to attain? I would like to be with him a year from now but I think it may take longer.

Why do you feel that the process will take longer? If his current address is California, his case will be processed by the California service center (CSC) and they are currently working their K-1 petitions quickly - within 45 days.

The process may seem overwhelming now, but look at USCIS and Department of State (DoS) and read the information posted there. This site is an enormous resource too. This site has helped many people get through the process successfully without needing to hire a lawyer. When you have a question about the process, search this site first. Explore all the tabs at the top of the page. Read through the different forums. Check our any Bahrain country specific posts.

If you want to wait a year to come to US, look at all your options. It may take less than a year to get your visa if the current timelines hold true when you two file, but the fiance visa is valid for 6 months. So you may delay entering for that long if you wish.

So far, the process has been tremendously kind to us. Read up on how long people whose petitions at the Texas service center (TSC) have been waiting for too. The more information you know, the better prepared you two will feel!

I suggest that you marry then file your petition.

You should be clear as to what petition they should file after getting married, as the K-1 will no longer be an option then.
