No, Marvin, the question is, why on earth did this officer, who is supposed to uphold the law, shoot a man in cold blood and then try to lie about it. Try to see beyond your own skin color once in a while, there are actually bigger issues at hand here.

Because it is easy to lie on a black person and get away with it. All blacks are criminals......

Such BS. How do you know he would not have shot a white guy. Happens all the time. This case has nothing to do with race, but I promise the usual suspects and the media will fan the flames.

As for the N word. I work with a good number of black sales people. Good lord I hear the N word all day every day. Not to mention being told stuff like, Brothers are talking be quite, etc etc. It's not meant with malice but can you imagine it going the other way.

I do have a story about a little thug wanna be, that came to live with his cousin to escape the hood in the bigger city. Young man selling cars with us. He poured his heart out to me the other day, and told me about laying awake in his granny's bedroom dreaming of escaping. Awesome kid. Love him to death. Dude is selling cars like crazy. Nobody gave him chance when he started or thought he would make it .

Well, now that the few sales people you know validate that over 40 million black people use the "N word," this must be true. Great example of critical thinking.

Do not misinterpret my intention to help you see a social problem from a predictably narrow perspective in which a white policeman shoots and kills an unarmed black man. Why do events like this happen? Is it because of racist white police? Or, is it because the leaders and lawmakers of America are not willing to name the true victims and reasons for rising crime in America?

Can you identify the problem?

Unequal opportunities, uneven playing field, less access, take your pick.

The thing a lot of white and white-passing people forget is that we get a CHANCE to say "Yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir" when a cop pulls us over. The cop gives us the benefit of the doubt long enough to give us clear instructions. If we say "I'm sorry, could you repeat that?" we're likely to have the officer repeat himself. Black people or, in Canada, First Nations people do not get that luxury. "Could you repeat that?" is likely to be seen as resisting. Blinking is likely to be seen as resisting. Sometimes people do not even get an instruction to follow before they're 'resisting.'

The police have built up a culture where the following is fact: If they say a subject is resisting and the subject cannot afford the best possible lawyer, then the cop's word is law.

End of story. They also know that black folks are unlikely to have the money to fight back hard enough.

The cop in the video shot the man and lied about it because he did not think the person taping would be able to see what he was doing and he knew that, when it went to court, he would win.

That he might not is an anomaly that might save hundreds of lives.

This is sobering and heartbreaking, even more so when coming from an individual of Marvin's high caliber.

Thank you for the kind words. But this is a reality for most black people in America. It's bad enough that we as a people have to be beyond reproach just to be considered somewhat equal. What's worse, we're told that we have to adapt by sacrificing things people have worked their entire lives to obtain just so the cops will leave you alone.

It's a damn shame that a black man, who worked hard to achieve wealth, has to buy a Prius in order to for him to not be profiled by the police

No no. You have to use the proper terms Janelle. It's thugs. That's the new word this season. We're all thugs. This 50 year old man was a thug.

This is what most people are missing. There's a strong belief that all you have to do is comply and everything will be okay. You have to take it in order to live. Even though when it's a white person, most of the time, the encounter is almost pleasant. For us, the attitude is already there. They've already got in their minds we've done something wrong, all it takes is a little push. An insult here, a curious question there, you'll lose your cool. And when you do, it's all down hill from there.

Don't even have to lose control, from what I hear. Just have to move wrong or not do exactly what they say as fast as they want it.

I am truly glad the person who videoed this had the guts and courage to turn this video in. This is what a real human being with real feelings would do. Bravo to this individual for not letting race play a decision on whether or not to submit this video. This person could have always thought since the guy was black he deserved to be gunned down in this manner.

Typically, if you keep a cool head, your chances increase that you'll make it out without incident.

Without the video, this cop would have walked, easy. It's almost impossible to prove negligence when the shooter is a police officer. Out of all the killings of late, I think this might be the only one who gets locked up. I won't hold my breath though, Eric Gardner, John Crawford and Tamir Rice were all killed on video and no charges stuck.

But they're still lower than they would be if you didn't have as much melanin.

I do see this being dragged out. I have no hope the right thing will be done. Unfortunately, the justice system rarely works in favor of minorities.
