Just wondering if anyone knows... My husband was 4 years behind in his US tax filing. We are abroad and it has been nothing short of a nightmare trying to sort it out as we owned our own business and it's very complicated. We are currently waiting for 2012 and 2013 transcipts.. its taking more than 3 months to process., going on how long 2011 took... We have been stuck waiting to file the AOS since August last year. Do I have any options other than waiting for the transcripts? We have filed a 6 month extension for 2014. Want to be in the US for my kids to start school this September but feeling like we are still months and months away. My priority date is in March 2013 :(

You don't need the transcripts. You could have sent in your AOS package the minute you filed. You only need to supply NVC with current tax forms or Tax transcripts. So whatever you sent to IRS to file you send that also with your AOS package.

So send in your 2014 extension letter and 2013 tax filing.

oh my goodness!!!!! I cant't believe I've been waiting for the transcripts!!!! This is amazing news!!! Sorry if this a ridiculous question but do I attach the whole 42 pages of 2013 tax return? Thank you so much for your response dwheels

42 pages! Holy wow. Yes all the pages. On a sidenote, you can go to the irs website and download the transcripts.....the only waiting that's down is how fast you can register on the site.

*edited, realized you probably meant waiting as in waiting for your tax return to be approved before downloading transcripts. :(

Please read her full thread and the I-864 instructions: She filed multiple years LATE -- I-864 instructions call for transcripts in that instance.

1. If returns are filed late, the instruction do say TRANSCRIPT. If on time, then copies. OP suggested multiple late years. That being said, there are stories here of USCIS accepting the returns with the I-864 and also of RFEs going out for transcripts. (which you'll get, Cannot say).... Several people have had luck walking their returns to a local or nearby overseas IRS facility (perhaps IRS liaison at consulate even) and letting them stamp a 2nd copy as received.... the stamped copy holds more weight than photocopy and proof of delivery.

2. IRS quotes 6 weeks for paper transcripts ( 2 week e-file) but has been known to take months also.

3. IRS quotes 10 calendar days for 4506T and for Website by Mail, but again, often this takes much longer. Faster alternatives can sometimes include BULK service providers who advertise.

4. Remember that you can start the clock by filing with your copies and then if you do get an RFE, you can try to stall out for the transcripts if need be. Just keep an eye on the time pressures.

Also RE: Online Transcript --- has a hard time matching some foreign addresses.... and uses Credit Bureau for supplemental security questions..

if you've been overseas awhile, you might find yourself unable to get through it....... and wind up 4506 T .

I am effectively up to date as all tax years have now been filed with an extension for 2014. I've got nothing to lose now sending in the entire tax return as even if I get a checklist after 60 days, I'll probably STILL be waiting for the IRS transcript to come through. Thank you thank you for your advice. Probably just saved myself 3-4 months of this journey!

Actually guys you can now get transcripts on the spot by creating a profile in the IRS website and you will be provided your transcripts on the spot. That is how I got mine in like 10 minutes.

The returns have to be processed first, which seems to be more the problem. We were selected for error resolution and additional processing this year and probably still won't have transcripts available more than 2 months after e-filing. Just the way it goes.

3/2/18  E-filed N-400 under 5 year rule

3/26/18 Biometrics

7/2019-12/2019 (Yes, 16- 21 months) Estimated time to interview MSP office.
