So I was wondering how many of you had pets before your SO came from the MENA and how did they deal with it? My husband sort of freaked out and had many near-strokes when I said I had 3 indoor cats, and then he's sort of softened up.. banning them from the bedroom and the kitchen, but I have a typical American open-flow design and unless we built a wall and installed a door, you can't shut off the kitchen! LOL! WHich gave him another series of near strokes when he heard that. I was like, ummmm... they don't get on the counters, so unless you plan on licking the floor you won't be touching where they touched.

I have practically memorized hadeeth about cats being clean :) Which I throw at him every time he has one of his mini-strokes :)

Anyone have any good stories to tell? :)

ROTFL!!! I love that! "I don't like that idea at ALL so we'll have to have another talk" is about teh same attitude I took! I was like, I have 3 indoor kitties. He said "Ok, they can go outside." I said "no." He said "yes." I stared him down and over the course of a year have gotten to where we are now... :)

I use to have a dog which I gave up when I moved to Jordan for awhile. The little dachshund was a terror with kids. She would bite the hell out of one of my daughters (ONLY ). My husband use to say, why doesn't she take her out for a walk in the middle of traffic?

when we moved back here, we found ginger was killed when she ran into the road. He reminded me of what he said about playing in traffic ect... However he HATES dogs, cats, birds, fish... fish??? yes even fish.

At Christmas my daughter was going to get me a sheltie. I love them however. I am to the point I do not wish to train an animal. I have trouble with the three animals I have living here ( OOPS I MEAN KIDS) which i have to clean up after all the time.

I'm okay with the no pet thing....

it would have been funny to see that as a video, him freaking out about the cats. I know my husband gets ashand when I joke about getting an animal...

my husband let me get a puppy for our 2nd anniversay. he didnt want any part of her when she came but after about 2 weeks he was in love. a year later we got the kitten. the cat hates him so naturally he dont like it either. he complains about the hair and toys everywhere and still wont let the dog sleep in our bed. but he will sleep on the couch just to be with her.

certain things i am willing to bend for my fiance. we have a lot of cultural differences (duh. hehe) but when it comes to pets i stand firm. i've always had pets my entire life and they have been treated like family. i would never have a dog just to let it sit outside all day and night. poor puppy! and my kitty? well he's 10 years old and there's no way i'm getting rid of him now! he's easily got another 10 to go! (inchallah) glad your husband finally saw the light ;)

Ohhhhh the infamous pet topic!!! uggggggggggggg what a struggle pets are ..... some people are lucky and their SO doesn't mind them at all...then there are people with SO's like mine. When I first got Nebbie (our dog) he said oh, that is nice but why is she in the house??? I said, she lives inside. He was quite shocked by that but didn't say much more. I had a couple cats at the time and he didn't really have a problem with them as long as they weren't up by my face. Once he got here, he was surprised to find that the dog actually lived inside the house alllll the time, except for potty breaks and playtime. He has had a problem with that since arriving. We are currently looking for a good home for her because having a dog in the home and being Muslim just doesn't work out (according to him). If she gets even 1 drop of slobber on you, you have to wash 7 times with dirt or take a shower and scrub really well. No, I'm serious! He's constantly telling her to get away and it is just no life for her...poor puppy... We do have the bedroom blocked off so if nobody gets slobbered upon, we can have a clean room to pray in.

To sum it up, yeah we have had problems with animals...not so much the cats....but definitely the dog

My husband wasn't fond of having a cat inside before he got here. Boy do things change. You would swear it was his child now. He worries about him and is always wanting to make sure he is okay. Not only does he sleep with him at night, he DREAMS about him. My hubby fell asleep on the couch a few nights ago and I was on the laptop computer (no doubt reading VJ). He started kicking his feet. I asked him what is wrong?? He said that he was dreaming that he was holding our cat to protect him from wild dogs and cats and he was kicking them away.

I'm beginning to wonder if he'd save the cat before me...

We even went to a movie the other night (Babel-great for your hubby's to see especially if they are from Morocco-great for the wive's to see because of Brad Pitt :P ). There was a cat in the movie and on the way home he said he wondered how our cat was doing at home. He said the cat in the movie reminded him of our cat. I was going to ask if the blonde in the movie reminded him of me. But I didn't. :innocent:

My friend from work gaves us two cats and we had a dog, my son's dog. Anyways my husband had no problem with the dog until it made an accident because nobody let him out. You would have thought the world came to a end ! So the dog went back to my ex's house. Made me feel really guilty and sad, but he'll be back!!!!!

Great! I'm glad to see some good stories in with the neutral ones.. and it seems very few bad ones. Today we reiterated how cats are not makrooh or haram, and he can be licked and not invalidate his wudu.

You know. Slow brainwashing :)
