Hey everyone,

So, I'm starting to put my I-129F packet together and I'm just confused on how to assemble everything...I have seen people do it different ways. I will try to make it as organized as possible even though I have heard they take everything apart and place things in their own order. Also, for the photos, I have labeled the back of each individual photo with where we are and the date. Should I just place them in a plastic bag and staple that to a hole punched paper and put it in my binder or should I tape them to blank pieces paper and put them inside clear pockets and then put it in the binder...I'm thinking it would be less work for them if I just put all the pictures in a plastic bag...Please help!! xx

First of all I do not recommend using binders when assembling your packet. Use paperclips to keep all your papers together, and keep them in order by your cover letter. When you mail it, you should just be able to slide all the papers in to a large envelope or one of those express mailers at the post office.

For the photos you can put them in a ziplock bag that is stapled to a sheet of paper. That is what we did.

Correct.

. Also, for the photos, I have labeled the back of each individual photo with where we are and the date.

Good

Should I just place them in a plastic bag and staple that to a hole punched paper and put it in my binder

No binder, please....only binder and paper clips.

or should I tape them to blank pieces paper

Yes, and paper or binder clip these together.

and put them inside clear pockets and then put it in the binder

No binder.

...I'm thinking it would be less work for them if I just put all the pictures in a plastic bag.

I placed each of the eight photos I sent into a separate bag and taped them to a blank piece of paper. No binder.

..Please help!! xx

Is there any reason for not using a binder? Or just your personal preference? I've seen other people use them and get accepted :/

I won't be putting holes in documents or anything, I was going to put them all in the clear paper holders that go into the binder...just curious(:

We used paperclips on individual pieces and then paper clamps on the whole thing, no binders and absolutely no staples. We put the photographs in a plastic photo sheet. Make sure that your individual passport photos are labeled as instructed, placed in individual baggies, and clipped on a sheet of paper with the corresponding biographic form.

No binders, no holes on the sides, no plastic sleeves. They have to take that all apart. You are creating extra work for them.

The USCIS has written out tips for assembly http://www.uscis.gov/forms/forms-and-fees/general-tips-assembling-applications-mailing

In preparing your packet, please take note of the following:

--Do not use binders or folders that cannot be easily disassembled.

--Use ACCO fasteners to hold together thick or bulky applications or petitions. Two-hole punching the top of the material for easy placement in the file is appreciated.

--The use of tabs assist in locating items listed as attachments. The tabs should be placed on the bottom and not the side for ease in filing.

--Avoid using heavy-duty staples; instead use ACCO fasteners or heavy clips.

--Avoid submitting originals unless specifically required. Avoid submitting oversized documentation when possible.

We put photos in ziplocks, then paper clipped those to blank piece of paper. Paper clipped things that are supposed to go together together (like both our letters of intent), and then binder clipped the whole thing. My thought was to keep it organized, but not piss off the person who had to take apart our packet. I know it seems like binders would be easier, but once it's at the service center, they take the whole thing apart and reorder it anyway.

My fiancé and I submitted our petition on Saturday, a Valentine's gift to ourselves. I put together what I believed was a beautiful petition, binders, sheet protectors, etc. I didn't know anything about the no binder rule. Do you think this will have any effect on our petition?

In my opinion, it shouldn't be too "difficult" to disassemble. But I don't know what the USCIS will think about it.

Could anyone let me know so I can ease my worry a little bit? I'm second guessing everything now and thinking I did something wrong.

Thanks.

No. It won't help it or hurt it. Maybe some others that came in the same day got to the NOA1 line before you because theirs took less time.
