so...i was supposed to have my N400 interview today (in NYC). Friday afternoon I received a phone call from one of the NY field officers who asked me not to come in on Monday since she doesn't have my file. She told me that she will call me when she gets my file so we can re-schedule my interview.

today i get an email from USCIS that states:

On February 2, 2015, we requested that certain people associated with your Form N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION, Receipt Number xxxxxxxx, come to an appointment. No one came to the appointment, and this will significantly affect your case. Our records show that you asked that this appointment be cancelled.

did anybody go through this? do i need to do anything or hopefully they will figure out they made a mistake?!!!!

pls help with any advice...

I was not aware that they can CALL let alone call to reschedule an interview via a phone call. I believe in showing up for the interview regardless. If not for anything, just to have it on record that you did show up.

But since that didn't happen here, I would call them. If you can, please try and remember the name of the officer. I would also check your phone records for the number, day and time they called.

It could be that this was one of those emails that auto generate and does not mean that anything is wrong.

The best part is this is not AOS or ROC where not showing up could be the beginning of the end. You will be okay

All the best :)

Can you give me some insight into what happened?

I just received an email with the same text as yours; I never received an appointment notice, I called last Friday and they had no record of me ever being sent one. The customer rep sent a request to the field office for a status update as it had been more than 30 days; then I get this email tonight. I'm quite perplexed, I never asked for anything to be cancelled and according to the rep at the customer service center there was nothing to cancel!

Yeah...so my story is a little different because I actually had an appointment scheduled (letter in the mail). However, I was called by someone from the field office a couple of days prior to the appt and told not to come in because they didn't have my file yet. Of course, like a good girl and not knowing any better, I listened to them and I didn't go for my scheduled interview.

Then next day I got that scary email and a few days later a letter in the mail saying the same thing. I freaked out, I called the national useless phone number - all they could tell me was to make an INFOPASS appt at my field office or mail them (the field office) a letter.

I mailed them a letter explaining what happened, but decided to be safe so I also made an appt a couple of weeks later. I went in and told them my story - they said that whoever called me basically made a mistake by not "flagging" my file/updating the system and not following up once they got the file (turns out my it arrived to the field office same day I was originally scheduled for my interview). I was told to go home and wait for a new interview letter - "whenever they dig my file up from the pile again". Or something like that. I have no idea if they ever got my mailed letter, btw.

Anyway...about 1 month later I got a new interview notice and I actually went in for my interview 2 weeks ago. So things worked out in the end, minus my stress and an extra 2 months added to my timeline.

If possible, I would say to make a trip to your field office and find out what happened (in my case the phone customer rep was completely useless). Good luck, I hope you can sort it out!

(in my case the phone customer rep was completely useless)

The are useless in 99% of all situations. The only thing they do ist to read what you already got in the mail/can see online und then the say to wait 30 more days. Pointless organization!

Hopefully...its not as bad as above. Old thread - still I thought I'd add update.

Infopass Officer old me that I have 90 days within which I need to reschedule appt ( give application in writing at the office). After 90 days- I have 1 year to open the case before its dead and gone.

I missed my n400 interview .
