The Myth Behind Defensive Gun Ownership

Consistency is so limiting.

So is basing getting a gun on the false premise that it is to make you safer. It limits ones ability to recognize that without a lot of consious respect for the reality that it actually works the opposite way around, getting the gun that ends up being front and center of a tragedy.

You choose to call the police and wait 15 minutes for them to show up.

Let me choose to own a gun, call the police and then protect myself until they show up.

A gun is an inanimate object.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

A gun is an inanimate object.

A gun is inanimate. That is not really the point.

The point is your incorrect, based on the false premise that guns more often than not are helpful as a defensive tool, belief that your choice of getting a gun makes you safer. That feeling you get from a false premise so often recited as gospel by the NRA, gun manufacturers and the rest of the gun aficionado crowd who are just reciting bad data from a fatally flawed 'study' is why you think you have made a snappy comeback. Fail.

From the OP:

In fact, there are millions of lives that are saved in America every year, or millions of instances like that where gun owners have prevented crimes and stopped things from happening because of having guns at the scene.

It may sound reassuring, but is utterly false. In fact, gun owners are far more likely to end up like Theodore Wafer or Eusebio Christian, accidentally shooting an innocent person or seeing their weapons harm a family member, than be heroes warding off criminals."

Noone has said that you should not have a gun. You just need to understand that your reason for having it, defense, is bogus, unless you truly understand that you have actually increased the level of danger to yourself and those around you and act accordingly.

What are you even talking about at this point - do you even know?

You start half an argument about Boko Haram and don't explain how it's linked to the topic in the OP. Then you jump to black youth crime as if there is some implied connection.

You don't make any sense.

I just bumped thru VJ to take a look. Still the same ol same ol. How is the above post not in violation of the TOS?

No. It is not. The subject is not that difficult to grasp. Idiots and the innocent are punished all the time because the myth that a gun is perfect for protection. This misconception leads to forgetting just how dangerous a gun can be. One is wise to recognize the reality that choosing to get a gun increases the danger to yourself and those around you.

The problem is so many people have been brainwashed into believing just the opposite.

There is no problem with guns if people are trained and not afraid. Nothing like the scent of a cleaned gutted kill hanging from the maple in the yard. People that get killed because they are ninny's are just proving you can avoid your Darwin award for only so long before karma catches up and the gene pool is better without them.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

The problem in this country is that most gun owners are neither. I would agree with your comment on evolution, were it not for the fact that most people who die as a result of gun stupidity are not the owners, but rather those near them.

The biggest problem with guns in this country is that too many of them are lost or stolen.

You can say the same thing about cars also but you don't try to limit the amount on the roads .

697,979 motor vehicle thefts nationwide in 2013

191,000 guns were lost or stolen in the United States in 2012

There is no anger here. I suggest if you have an issue with me that you take it up privately with the mods rather than making these public spectacles.

If guns and cars are the same, then why do you need both? Why don't you just keep your car handy?

And how many people are killed by car accidents ? So much unsafer than having a gun.

Same question. Why don't criminals use cars to rob banks? Why are our attack helicopters not armed with cars? I mean they kill more people right?

there is a problem, that's the whole point. trained and not afraid? the main reason people purchase guns is because they're afraid.
